Totally worthless. Stagnant, buggy. The features that it does have (not enough) are buggy. Filetransfers doesn't work, searching in the channel list causes a crash. I got screen garbage with controls drawing on top of each other in the preferences.
Two years since last activity ? Another lost IRC client. There's been so many over the years.

Used to be worthwhile. Now it's a dead program.

Avoid.
It crashes instantly every single time I open the preferences on my Intel Mac. Doesn't crash on my regular Mac, but the UI is so ..amateurish... I've tried emailing the developer but the address bounces back.
This program is abandoned, and can be considered Dead.
Avoid.
Look at modern alternatives like Ircle, Snak, Colloquy.

I guess the silence kind of answers my question quite well -- no reply here, no current activity on the website...seems to me that this app is dead...!?
Too bad though, it was one of the better IRC clients for the Mac and had lots of potential...

Just wondering -- did the developer stop working on this...?! It's been over a year since the last version now, which was good but sure had some space for improvement...! Also a UB or Intel version would be cool by now...!?

I have a wonderful experience with Conversation !!! 5 stars for it!
I have 2 questions: will it be ported to Universal Binary ? And is it possible to include an auto-reconnect feature (after 5 minutes to avoid NickName in use problem), in case the line is dropped (as it occurs every 36 hours, forced by the ADSL provider)
PS I sent an email with this text to the developer, but did not receive any answer of yet :(

great app. but seems to crash quite a lot. Not sure if this is a problem with IRC network or the app., and not sure there's anything to be done about it. Also, there's no support for adding multiple servers as favorites in one hit, which is a bit frustrating. Otherwise, great!

since the update I'm having problems connecting to gamesurge. It won't connect or the app crashes when trying.

Conversation is a great IRC App. It's a perfect fit for OS X utilizing an interface that will be familiar to any OS X user and is easy enough to use that even a beginner shouldn't have problems with it.
The app is Donationware and I'd encourage all who sue it to go ahead and make a donation.
My only gripe with it is that I really, really don't like the notification badges. I would love to see an option to either a) turn the off completely, or b) (in my opinion a much better option) to have a preference to turn off the badges for "general" messages but still have the badge for "private" messages function. I plan on e-mailing the developer about this as soon as I get around to donating.
Other than that, and I realize that that's all subjective anyway, A+.

Contrary to the other user comments, I have to say that Conversation, by its principal design/logic, is the best (Freeware) IRC client, which I ever used on the Mac!
Conversation works quite simple for new users, but at the same time also allows pro users to issue their text based IRC commands, as they are used to.
CONCERNING THE STALLED DEVELOPMENT:
- In 10.4 on my Intel MacBookPro it still "sort of worked". It was already slow due to the Rosetta (Intel -> PPC) Code translation, and sometimes crashed.
- Meanwhile, 2009-09 with OS 10.5 it practically does not work anymore!
- In 2006-03 the author replied to an inquiry email, stating, that he is working on a version 3.
- I have sent him another email now in 2009-09, and hope for a reply!
