Cinematize CommentaryBe careful with reviews - Version: 2.07, 8/6/2008 01:38AM PST

I see that MPEG Streamclip is being suggested as an alternative to this tool. I have not used either (but will try both, soon.)

Reviewers should please take more care. It is not correct to say that they are congruent. Cinematize claims to do something that MPEG Streamclip does not claim to do — receive video from a DVD. MPEG Streamclip only claims to receive MPEG files.

I have a need that is not only very specific, I would be very surprised if many others do not want to do the same thing. And I'm wondering if Cinematize will do it (based on the claims, anyway) whereas I'm sure MPEG Streamclip will not.

I have a disc-based video recorder attached to my television. I want to be able to move recorded material (it appears on the recorder's hard disc as a VIDEO_TS folder) to my computer for editing in, for example, iMovie, and subsequent burning to a DVD (again as a VIDEO_TS folder) for later playing on any DVD player in the normal way. I'm not interested in producing MPG files for playing in, for example, QuickTime Player.

Can anyone tell me if Cinematize or any other tool will do what I want? I've searched long and hard without success so far.

Read the ad, which says that it will work "even with protected DVD's".
Doesn't work, gives an error message. Of course, all DVD's in the last 10 years are protected. Don't buy, doesn't work

Cinematize ReviewHAS NO AUDIO PREVIEW! - Version: 2.05, 8/16/2006 06:09AM PST

Heavily marketed, and reviewed, I read the glowing review in EventDV magazine, and ran out and bought it. To my surprise, when you are setting up the clip you want to extract, YOU HEAR NO AUDIO AT ALL, making this the most frustrating experience you will ever have in video. You cannot fine tune your in and out points without guessing, because again, there is NO AUDIO in preview. The manufacturer wrote back to me saying, that's right THERE IS NO AUDIO in preview!
HOWEVER, in checking around Versiontracker, I found the FREE "MPEG Streamclip" app, which has audio preview, has jkl control, allows you to nudge back and forth until you find the perfect in/out points, tons of export options, and again, MPEG Streamclip is FREE, and HAS AUDIO PREVIEW. YOU MUST CHECK OUT "MPEG Streamclip" at Versiontracker and at http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html

This software has always been second to none when it comes to extracting files from your DVDs but now I should also mention that the customer service leaves the competitors in the dust. As a registered user I needed a new download link because I had lost my installed version and the author sent it to me in a matter of minutes. His email was not one of those official one-line emails other companies send you but was written in an incredibly friendly way showing the care this company dedicates to its clients. I would like to thank the author and wish him every success for a prosperous career. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

Cinematize ReviewFantastic Application_A Must Have - For Sure! - Version: 2.05, 12/22/2005 02:19PM PST

Truth w Christ
This is the absolute best DVD extraction program and I have tried them all. There are other good programs also - but Cinematize allows for Professional Options and works flawlessly. In addition the developer is very responsive.

If you have DVD's and want to extract footage for say Final Cut or DVD Studio Pro, or simply want a way to go from DVD file to iPod Movie - Cinematize is the best! You can also easily get audio tracks from the DVD files at full quality! Excellent all around. 5 Stars!

Those of you with issues on how to use this program seem to be a bit dim. I installed the program and had a test clip ddone within 10 minutes. I only needed to look at the manual for one or two small clarifications on video/audio quality settings, but the rest is easy to figure out if you have used a computer more than two weeks. This program did exactly what it said it did, no problems, and very simple to use.

Cinematize ReviewWARNING: Demo version caused big crash IN OS X 10.4 - Version: 2.04, 9/19/2005 06:55PM PST

I downloaded the Mac demo of Cinematize today. Although the system requirements information doesn’t say anything about not being OS X 10.4 ready, I suspect it doesn’t work with 10.4. I tried to extract a couple of small DVD files. When it appeared it would take forever, I decided to check my e-mail while I waited. I dragged a couple of Word files which came as attachments in an e-mail to my desktop. At that point all hell broke loose. Nothing worked right and force quit did not force anything to quit. I restarted and logged in. Then my finder kept quitting and restarting, quitting and restarting, every 5 seconds. I ended up installing 10.4 onto my external hard drive, booting from there, and then trashing every Cinematize file I could find. I had to then restore some preferences to my computer. All of this took several hours today.

The Miraizon website says nothing about OS X 10.4 compatibility.
