Yesterday Versiontracker came in handy, when I was searching for a way to sync my Addressbook and iCal data between my iMac and my new (and shiny) Macbook without MobileMe.
This neat little app works really great and saves you the MobileMe tax. If you don't need iPhone over the air syncing and the other MobileMe services (besides syncing) it's a nice alternative (also I am quite sure that fruux will add iPhone syncing, too - it's on their roadmap).
Oh - and did I mention: There support is lightning fast - I just tweeted that I started using fruux and literally within seconds they contacted me and asked if I had any question or feedback. Thats really high-level customer support at it's best.
100% recommendation!

If you must have an account on some unknown site it would be clearly stated before installation.
There's no way I'll trust my data to be sync'ed to some web site that has never been heard of, is brand new, and is hidden behind an application without transparent information about the site.
BEWARE: any info can and probably is submitted to a web site.
