ATI Remote Wonder ReviewNew Version Available - Version: 1.5, 3/2/2006 05:45AM PST

CraigP
ATI have updated their Remote Wonder software, and are currently up to v2.0.1 (at time of writing).

Although VersionTracker hasn't been updated with this new version (release on 21/12/05), it is available to download from ATI's website here:

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=21318

I look forward to playing with this lovely device!

ATI Remote Wonder CommentaryATI Blocking Download - Version: 1.5, 12/7/2005 06:52PM PST

ProfeC13

I tried to download this file and got a page on the ATI site that says the file/page is not accessable. Of course, searching for the app on their site is pointless because everything except what your looking for comes up.

Anyway, here is the link to the page with the download (if they will let you link to it):

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

If this works like I have been told it does, it should be pretty kewl since I just got an AirPort Express.

Numerous profiles are provided with Remote Wonder Control 1.5 and with the new Import & Export features it's even easier to share any number of new profiles.

The unofficial forum at http://in.mypocket.com contains a discussion board dedicated to the Remote Wonder line of remotes, with a special emphasis on Mac OS. Many new profiles are already posted for download.

ATI Remote Wonder Usage TipIt finally seems to work everytime - Version: 1.2.2, 6/8/2004 10:13AM PST

The RemoteWonder finally seems to work after every restart. I use Logitech cordless mouse and keyboard. Thus I used the Logitech layout. When changing to Pro the RemoteWonder works without any problems. Setting "Pro" must be done before restarting. After that, the USB-device can be plugged and unplugged unnumerous times and in any USB-connection.

ATI Remote Wonder CommentaryApp name problem - Version: 1.2.2, 1/17/2004 12:38PM PST

Nice package. However, it doesn't work with apps that have a forward slash "/" in their name. I have a USB TV, and the app used to be called "MyTV X" which worked. They've renamed the app in their latest beta, to "MyTV/X", and I can no longer use it with ATI Remote Wonder. Last note... this leaves the Keyspan DMR in the dust! Stay away from that remote.

ATI Remote Wonder ReviewExcellent, with a couple "but"s - Version: 1.2.1, 1/13/2004 02:45PM PST

I've been using this for controlling VNC and iTunes, and it's been great -- with two exceptions Response is instantaneous, and the controller is extremely customizable. I was trying to do these things for a while with Salling Clicker, but this is Soooo much easier to use I no longer even look at Salling.

I agree with another poster that a small joystick would be preferable to the "squishpad" that is on the remote, but that is a small complaint considering how useful it is.

I have two small beefs with the program --
First, it caused a HARD crash on my G4 when I used the Power button to try to put my computer to sleep. My computer locked up tighter than a drum, forcing me to hold the computer's power button to turn it off and restart. (I have since changed the remote's power button to instead equal pressing Command-Q).

Two, can anybody explain to me why ATI's programmers saw fit to put their preference pane in the Syatem folder? At most this should be in the Library, if not the user's Library. It installs into /System/Library/PrefPanes/, which really should only be the domain of Apple's own software. In fact, I had thought until now that OS X prevented third-party installers from putting things in there, but I guess not.

So there are obviously a couple bugs to still work out (some hardware, some software), but overall this is a very well-designed and handy device. Hopefully the 1.2.2 update fixes some of the instability, though it does still install in the System folder, which it should not.
