FontThing ReviewVery good - Version: 1.4.7, 7/6/2008 12:51PM PST

-Fixx-
Works fine. It crashed once but I guess that happens with corrupt fonts. Loading fonts is not too slow IMHO as FontVista by Morrison SoftDesign is even slower.
Installing fonts as you go is nifty but of course it would be better if this thing would communicate with font managers (like Font Explorer) and generate its own set within FEX. Displaying only one face of a subfolder is not a problem but I wish I could open subfolders by hitting arrow-right (as you can move between fonts with arrow-down and -up). Might also be nice in logowork if size would go up to 200pt.

FontThing CommentarySlow to load, but great little tool - Version: 1.4.5, 6/17/2005 01:50PM PST

I like this product but when I had 300+ fonts loaded, it took forever to load the list. I had the program set to NOT clear the list so that it would read the same fonts next time it opens, but it just takes a while to load.

That said, I like that I can preview (with custom text) a font that isn't installed.

FontThing CommentaryBest font viewer since Font Gander Pro - Version: 1.4.5, 3/2/2005 10:03AM PST

Thank you! At last! This is what I´ve been looking for since Font Gander Pro. I have only started my evaluation today but FontThing seems to be working just fine on my Mac (Mac OS X, 10.3.7). Drag ´n drop, nice and easy, no need to activate all fonts, printable. If I find any bugs I will report them. Many happy regards, Clarendon

FontThing Troubleshooting Reportshow stopper bugs - Version: 1.4.4, 11/24/2004 02:18AM PST

I'm currently evaluating your shareware font viewer. I've not found anything else out there with the drag/drop features to view fonts not currently installed on a system. However, I found several bugs in my version and wonder if you have any work around for them.

1) files dropped on right hand or left hand window are kept open even after the "Clear List" button is pressed. If I throw a font in the Trash after viewing it, the Finder won't delete it until I quit FontThing. [minor problem]

2) fonts with more than 1 face per font file only display the first face in the file at the Set Preview font size. The other fonts are shown at the default size when the arrow to expand the faces viewable is rotated and another face is selected [major problem]

3) at some point, FontThing seems to "remember" fonts previously removed from the left-hand list with Clear List. If I display a lot of fonts, clear the list, then drop more fonts on the list, some of those "cleared" fonts display again. Quit clears this problem. I'm thinking a pointer is getting recycled somewhere or maybe malloc is returning memory with old data structures in it rather than it being filled with nulls. [major problem]

I consider (2) and (3) show stoppers that need to be fixed before I'm willing to purchase this program. Do you have a more current version with these bugs fixed?

FontThing ReviewI like it! - Version: 1.4.4, 10/18/2004 09:29AM PST

I don't get what is not to like about this program.

It is the ONLY thing I have found so far that works the way I would expect a font viewer to work. I often need to scan through huge collections of fonts very quickly WITHOUT activating them. Most of the applications like this only show installed fonts making them useless in my opinion. I can't even imagine why you would waste the time writing one.

I can drag 100 fonts at a time from anywhere to Fontthing and preview them with custom text. Every time I have tried the with Fontbook it locks up.

Nothing else I have found will do this. Please keep working on it, it has real promise.

FontThing CommentaryFreezes under OS X3 - Version: 1.4.2, 12/12/2003 08:32AM PST

Strictly for OSX 1 & 2 users. Could not bring this app to work under Panther plus FontBook will do all of this app claims save print.

I have over 7000 fonts on my system. I decided to be nice and only load the A folder. I tried to view a font one at a time, but the preview flashed and went away. I then did a select all and the app crashed previewing those ~500 fonts. Didn't even get to a point where I could TRY printing...

Silly wabbit.

FontThing ReviewShow promise, but.. - Version: 1.0b1, 7/31/2003 08:13PM PST

...not yet operational. Some fonts show up in preview, others don't... The shareware reminder opening each time you click on a button is a real pain in the neck and will probably get people trashing the app before having tried all the functions... An option to preview several fonts at once would be welcome.
