FREE! Paid version adds support & commercial license - Version: 1.2, 12/1/2008 09:54PM PST

I don't know why VersionTracker segregated this application into two separate pages, one for the FREE version and one for the $30 shareware version. They're the same thing. I am going to ask them to join the pages.
Here is where you can read about the FREE version:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10854561
What paying $30 gets you:
1) Business and Commercial Use license
2) Dedicated 24/7 support
3) Phone support
Note that this app ONLY scans and removes Macintosh malware, NOT Windows malware. Go get ClamXav for a free option to cover both platforms.
Also note that from my perusal of their "Thread List", there is a bunch of junk on it that never/ever made it out into the wild, most of which is not even capable of self-replication. The list also includes both ye olde Mac OS malware, which is inert on Mac OS X, as well as legitimate keylogger and surveillance programs. These legitimate programs can only be installed by someone would has direct access to your computer account. Typically the only point in knowing they are installed is to ascertain whether your boss is watching you or not. And if you have to ask, also ask why you're worried about wasting your boss' time at work in the first place.
There is a similar program for Mac called 'MacScan' that has a more thorough list of detected legitimate keylogger and surveillance programs, if you want to be more thorough/paranoid. It costs $30 shareware. The folks who wrote MacScan also provide a free detection and removal tool for the "Trojan.OSX.DNSChanger" which is officially named "Trojan OSX.RSPlug.A".
BTW: At the time of my typing, Trojan OSX.RSPlug.A is the one and only verified piece of malware for Mac. It is inert on Mac OS X Server and only affects certain setups of the Mac OS X client. Reportedly there is one more recently 'discovered' Trojan horse for Mac, but its legitimacy is in question at the moment.

No fan issue

I was a little bit afraid installing iantivirus (1.2) into my macbook pro. But there is no fan issue as posted below. It is easy to configure and does its job fast and reliable. Much faster and easier to configure than intego virusbarrier i had before and uncomparable easier to handle than ClamXAV that is also a nightmare to install. So iantivirus is just perfect. Why can't everybody make such programs?
Does what it says

I know we as MacUsers don't have a lot to worry about (yet), but it's reassuring to have a programme like this to run occasionally. I don't keep it active all the time, just a reassuring scan every couple of weeks. Of all the anti-viral programmes, this seems to be the best: easy to use, doesn't hog resources, is updated regularly, and best of all, it's free. The web site provides support and is informative. What's the catch?
Great idea, great price, burns up MacBooks - Version: 1.1, 10/28/2008 08:26PM PST

Obviously the thought is good and the price is right and much appreciated, but a word of warning to MacBook users -- this is one of the culprits of high processor usage and will bring your MacBook fans on full tilt after a while, eating at some times 80-percent of your processing power. I was beside myself trying to figure out why this was happening until I ran into a forum tip to run the Activity Monitor utility and find what they called "run-away processes" that could cause the fans in MacBooks to spin like jet engines. Well, unfortunately iAntiVirus was the culprit.
I'm sure the programmers will troubleshoot this in upcoming updates. I'll keep an eye on this and install it again when I see this issue dealt with. I just can't afford to lose almost half-an-hours battery life for this kind of thing yet.

need version for OS 10.4, can't open download - Version: 1.0b3, 10/19/2008 05:28PM PST

bzrI want to try this, and downloaded 1.0b3 because it says it will work on 10.4 -- but the package required 10.5 for opening it . . .
any suggestions, or alternative ideas? budget at the moment is $0, can pay for shareware in a few weeks, but have signs of spyware now.

From the website: The iAntiVirus™ database has been designed from the ground up to detect and remove Mac specific threats. This enables a high level of protection whilst keeping memory footprint and resource usage at a minimum. The iAntiVirus™ database is not cluttered with signatures for Windows specific threats which your Mac is immune against.
As a Mac user, thats what I want. I don't want to waste my resources scanning for Windows crap. IMHO: "You bought a windows machine, I suggest you protect it".
iAntiVirus does antispyware checking, thats the threat to Mac users, not viruses.

Easy to use, not intrusive, and the developers are open to suggestions. Get on the forum and let your voice be heard.

The initial download is the free edition, if you need support or wish to run it at the office, then it cost $39, but for those of us just needing to ensure we are not passing on viruses to our PC friends to ensure they will continue to speak with us, then this is a no brainer. I've tried a couple of other free antivirus software titles for the mac but found them very annoying, either by being too intrusive or too manual. This one provides real time protection and it's not in your face about it.
Note I did have it encounter an error on my first manual scan and had to restart the app, but it's still a beta software so I'll be forgiving

It is also very light on system resources. So it really can't hurt to run it. For most average users it may end up being a solution in search of a problem but another layer of security is never a bad thing if it stays out of your way.
Finally enough with the slamming users who use Antivirus software on the Mac. It's a choice, and it's not hurting you. Quit whining already.
