How is this going to save an LCD? You have to turn the backlight OFF to save an LCD.. THAT part is the weekest link. As a former service tech, I can truthfully say that the screen transistors don't need saving as they will long outlast the backlight I assure you. If you don't believe me, browse on over to MacFixIt. If you have an LCD, best to use Energy controls to completely shut down the screen...

"The reason for white, fyi, is that LCD screens are ON when they are black, and off when then are white." So does that mean I should set my PowerBook screen to go white to conserve the battery? Odd that I've seen no other web site advocate this. Why?

The reason for white, fyi, is that LCD screens are ON when they are black, and off when then are white. That is, to make an LCD screen black, the flourscent tube needs to be hidden, so all the pixels must be turned on.
