ProtectMac AntiVirus Commentaryer.... - Version: 1.1.1, 10/7/2009 05:50PM PST

what does the "next generation security product" actually mean? (made for SL doesnt count)
in other words, what great new strides in technology are built into it, making it tower above all others?
motivate us

Anyone ever notice that to combat flagging sales of its MAC AV that NORTON has to cry "Wolf!" every so often-and it always turns out to be a false alarm...
I think they must be on the verge of discontinuing the product

I installed on my 15" MacBook Pro and immediately had overheating issues. The computer ran hot all the time, and drained the battery in less than an hour. I opened activity window and found that the processor was running @ 100% continually due to this piece of software. I uninstalled it and Clamxav and I have no more overheating issues. I also found others who were having the same problem in the Apple discussions forum and traced it to the same cause. Just thought you should know!

Not bad for a new product. I got some viruses and some trojans in a safe folder and, after I've tried Intego Virus Barrier,Sophos Endprotection,TrendMicro Smart Surfing,iAntivirus and Norton, the only software to recognize that folder and the danger were: ClamXav and THIS ONE!
Good to go for.
Thanks

It makes perfect sense to discourage developers from writing Mac Apps, right?

Yeesh.

It's like the story about the guy who goes around banging on a drum. When he's asked why he does this, he says to keep the tigers away. When someone points out there are no tigers in the city, he declares "it works!". There's no way to even know if this product actually works since there is nothing to test it with. If one really needs this kind of reassurance, it would make more sense to at least get software from a known security company like Symantec (which costs the same amount of money).

Not sure what $44 buys when there are so many other ''tried and true'' options. Also, I have recently been using iAntiVirus which is free. I'd suggest giving that a whirl first before throwing money at something nobody has ever heard of, much less any Mac antivirus software. Another fairly decent free option is ClamXav which has less options but again is free.
