OIDS.X is a fast-paced action/arcade style game, melding elements of games like Choplifter, Asteroids, Defender, Lode Runner, and Lunar Lander, to make one very fun and addicting Macintosh video game.

Originally released in 1990, OIDS was a hit on the Macintosh with gamers looking for a fast paced arcade style game.
OIDS earned a rating of five Mice in MacWorld magazine when it was released.
Registered version includes a level editor so you can create your own Galaxies.
Comes with 11 levels ranging from easy to diabolical. Dozens more levels are available for free at the OIDS website.

OIDS.X is a shareware game and must be registered to enjoy all of its features. The registration fee is $20.00.

OIDS.X is a free upgrade to all registered OIDS 2.0.x users.

Old School Action Redux - Version: 10.0.4, 6/4/2004 02:31PM PST

I knew this game in its first incarnation as Choplifter from Broderbund. It played like a champ on Apple II+, a 1MHz 6502 processor. And some of you old gamers might even remember it as some other vector game variant in video arcades. However when Choplifter came out in the late 80s in full cabinet form, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Anyways I tried out this Atari ST variant tonight for the first time. Despite having been celebrated on the Mac for some time now, I've never once touched Oids. The graphics wasn't persuasive enough for a jaded gamer like me. But... 5 STARS! Oh my! So there I was loading it for the first time. The welcome screen was an eyeful, and that got my hopes up. But then what follows was a time warp trip back to my Apple II+ days. And people played this on the ST?

In short, it may be a fun game to the old school Atari ST gamers, but it's time someone gave this a full OpenGL update. Take a look at what someone did to Choplifter. Hard to believe this is a one man effort.

OIDS is a good arcade style game. I understand from some of the other reviews here that it is based on an older console game. The fact tat the game is still enjoyable after so long testifies to its quality, not only in the game play, but also in the programming. I registered within a few days of downloading it and have enjoyed playing quite a bit since then. Moreover, when I moved the game to another computer, the registration was no longer valid, but Xavagus responded to my email with a new registration key within a few hours (and this was on a Sunday!) Good game. Good service.

Plays great - what is very impressive (for Mac games of this type) is that it is arcade-smooth on even humble machines at the highest resolutions. Superb! A great and challenging game if you like that sort of thing ;o)
