Finder Window Manager CommentaryNot Working - Version: 1.9.7, 6/1/2009 08:53AM PST

This wonderful application has, unfortunately, not worked with Leopard for some time, as best I know. I believe the developer indicated that Apple made changes to Leopard that broke the functionality of Finder Window Manager. To me it was indispensable, and I have searched everywhere for anything that could replace it. My use of it was relatively simple — I just wanted to have my windows snap to a preset position in the Finder, with the correct Sidebar and text settings. It could do much more than that, of course.

Turns out it is possible to control window positions from the keyboard with another app, Keyboard Maestro, which can record macros. Don't know yet whether it can do this automatically, as could Finder Window Manager.

This excellent utility just keeps getting better. The option to keep other windows open is welcome, as is the ability to tile (or stack) windows in applications other than the Finder. So far I've only tried it with Safari but it works fine. I have a friend who needs the tile feature for Safari so this update is timely.

Finder Window Manager ReviewAbsolutely great! - Version: 1.9.5, 7/14/2006 08:47AM PST

One of the best computer related $10 I ever spent. Finally this idiotic Icon View can be automatically changed into List View in all Finder windows, and all windows open always exactly as I want it. The bug with the Watcher (has to be activated again and again everytime you start your computer) should get fixed, though!

Great to see this fantastic little application return, I've tested it and it's working great in 10.4 Tiger.

Even though I have other Finder type applications such as PathFinder there there is nothing that can replace Finder Window Manager for an instant look at the status of a whole bunch of folders. And only $10.

Having the ability to remember any number of Window "sets", including every little detail of how the window is setup (type of view, sorting, which columns, do they calculate sizes and so on) is great. There seems to be only a handful of applications that attempt this and FWM is the best by a royal mile.

There's quite a depth to this little app and many options, if you're forever shunting files around between folders then you can make the whole laborious task one hell of a lot nicer with this.

BTW, support is first class and errr, no, I'm not the developer :)

No longer will launch in 10.4 release. It would appear that there may be more than a few changes in the scripting of window behavior

Finder Window Manager ReviewSimple, useful and brilliantly executed. - Version: 1.9.4, 10/14/2004 12:03PM PST

This is one that ought to be built into MacOSX, it's that useful.

Working in graphics as I do, I'\m continually shunting and sorting graphics files of one sort or another from one place to another. Until I've developed the bespoke applescript of doom to do it for me (very unlikely!) this is the only thing that can speed up the operation. The degree of control is excellent and the app hasn't had any reliability problems whatseoever.

In an instant I can call up a window set (as many windows as I like ... 5, 10 whatever) and see the exact contents of several different folders all at once, and all precisly placed on the desktop and showing in the view I selected.

Brilliant, and $10, well it's nothing for the time it saves me. This app has made me noticeably more productive.

Works well enough, but I thought this was a Finder window controlling app. I nearly pooped myself when other app windows also disappeared. Expose does my desktop sorting.

Finder Window Manager CommentaryFinder only? - Version: 1.9, 5/3/2004 10:37AM PST

Is there any chance this functionality will be made to apply across all applications? We find it particularly annoying when an application opens a window with its title bar off-screen - especially since in X we can no longer grab a window by anywhere around its frame...
This happens all the time when we hook up or unhook our TiBook from its 21" monitor. Mozilla & Word especially lose track of what screen they opened on last. At least Word has a "tile windows" command...

Finder Window Manager ReviewFWM is getting better all the time! - Version: 1.8, 2/26/2004 01:15AM PST

This is my first review EVER as a VersionTracker user for 5 years. FWM is an utility i have been looking since I started using OSX (Neatnik has done the job well on OS 9, but there's no OSX version available -> get Neatnik from Tucows).
FWM works great, it is frequently updated with new features and the price is RIGHT - what more can you ask for!
I also bought FolderControl for more than twice the price, but I haven't used it after I found FWM.
The new Watcher fuction is also very nice.
In short: this utility is a true time-saver. Thanks for the autor!
