Product Description:

The long-awaited 4th generation of the game SimCity, SimCity 4, features new simulation and graphics engines, new regional game play and the new ability to track the lives of individual Sims as they go about their daily routine, SimCity 4 is the most realistic, powerful and personal SimCity experience ever. Right from the start, players experience new God-like powers of creation as they lay the groundwork for their cities by molding mountains, carving valleys, seeding forests and laying rivers. With these new landscape creation features, players can now construct the most realistic metropolis imaginable. Each city a player creates becomes part of an ever-growing tapestry of municipalities that, once connected by transportation networks, share and compete for resources. Depending upon the choices made by a player, this multi-city game play can result in a variety of outcomes within that region. For the first time ever, players can follow a Sim as they go about their life in the city. Players can personalize their Sim and immediately move him or her into any area and watch them experience life in the city, first hand. Is he or she enjoying a happy existence in an urban utopia or enduring a futile fight for survival in the inner-city?

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed additional compatibility issues with various ATI video cards
  • Fixed incorrectly colored buildings and other objects
  • Fixed problems with terrain highlighting
  • Changed game to alleviate problems related to the region screen showing incorrect city thumbnails or holes in the terrain. Users may need to revisit a city and re-save it in order for city thumbnail to be correctly displayed in the region screen.

SimCity 4 Usage TipNot a crashing fix but a tip for your sanity - Version: 1.0.2, 4/22/2006 05:37PM PST

If you launch Sim City while holding down the Command key you get the settings window that allows, among others things, to run the game within a window. While SimCity 4 still crashes, I at least now have the ability to do a force quit without having to reboot. This makes it slightly more tolerable since I'm not worried about corrupting other files because of the hard reboots I was having to do.

I so want to enjoy this game but the freezes makes it a very love/hate relationship.

maybe Aspyr will actually have some time to address these hard lockup/crashing problems that have been occurring since 2004, though their track record doesn't look so good.

I have a MDD dual 1.25GHz G4, with an ATi Radeon 9700 Pro (OEM), and this game locks up hard at least once or twice a day.

I finally got to the point that I'm paranoid enough that I save every five minutes.

The sad part is this was just released as a packaged box set around Chrismtas of last year, and Aspyr has known about these lockup problems since the beginning of 2005 (at least), yet it's almost midway through 2006 and absolutely nothing has been done about it, except to give people the brush-off saying that their resources currently are 'spread too thin'.

Well, I say that if you have the time to take people's money, then you damn well better have the time to fix bugs in your software.

Apparently this game has problems with all OS's later than 10.2.8... and exactly what OS revision are we on now???

Get with it Aspyr. This is a fantastic game, but the lockups/slowness are about to make me throw a huge temper tantrum.

SimCity 4 CommentarySixty bucks?! - Version: 1.0.2, 3/24/2006 03:59PM PST

Ouch -- the very most expensive game for MacOS X!? If they come out with something new and exciting, like Spore, while it's fresh in everyone's mind, and not a year or more late, then I'd consider $60 for a game...but this doesn't meet that threshold for me.
