Product Description:

Unstoppable Progress is a system hack that causes aqua progress bars in some Carbon applications to "overflow" and fill the window with water. Ben and Jon Gotow programmed this at the 2003 MacHack Conference, where it won the coveted Victor A-Trap award in the Best Hack Contest.

The download includes the actual Application Enhancer, source code, and a QuickTime movie that shows the effect without the need for installing the software.

What's new in this version:

Unlike the copy distributed on the MacHack conference CD, this version of Unstoppable Progress doesn't lock up applications after it finishes its animation (the lock-up's were intentional in the original, since the point was to make the progress bars truly "unstoppable" - but that somehow didn't seem to go over very well with users :-)

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2.6 or higher
  • Unsanity's Application Enhancer (which is automatically installed with any of their "Haxies")

For anyone curious, like I was, I wrote the maker of this hack, and he has assured me that it does indeed work in Panther, as long as you are running a Panther compatible version of Unsanity's APE. -Ryan

Unstoppable Progress ReviewEveryone's a critic... - Version: 2.0, 7/7/2003 06:44PM PST

Apparently people didn't get my "unintelligible user who refuses to read what an application does act, and thusly posts something unneccasary" act, but instead, believed that I truly was upset at the application's "side affect", which was in fact the program's true nature all along.

In other words, I love it. :) It's simple, it's stupid, and it's free. What more could you ask for? Works beautifully.

Unstoppable Progress ReviewWTF? A 5.4M download?! - Version: 2.0, 7/7/2003 02:05PM PST

Okay, I just installed this and I'm saying to myself, "What the ****? You make me download a 5.4M file just for a 412K haxie?!" I've got a broadband connection and I'm still thinking this is a really stupid idea. If people want to see the movie, direct them to your website and let them download it individually. It would surely save you bandwidth and definitely save your users time. Cool idea, utterly moronic packaging. I need a separate rating category just for this; as there's none, I'm deducting two stars overall for lack of forethought. :-(
