Xmp3split Troubleshooting ReportVery nice... when it works - Version: 1.0, 10/10/2007 12:50PM PST

Christian Mercat
The feature is exactly what I need to split my long podcast radio programs in chunks that fit my daily bike trip to work.

I love the no interface drag and drop feature, I put an alias of the application on my mp3 key, drag my mp3 files to it and ziiip it goes... So nice.

Unfortunately, one third of the podcasts I want to split can not be split by Xmp3split, it simply says "File error! Possible problem with file or the split time may be less than the totla length of file" which is clearly an understatement since it doesn't do anything in this case.

Too bad!

Xmp3split Usage TipWatch Xmp3split work by means of "top". - Version: 1.0, 8/9/2004 11:20PM PST

Detlef Lindenthal
I had to split a 26 hour mp3 file. Xmp3split split it quick and precisely, every 10 minutes as selected.

The front end is very spartanic. To watch Xmp3split work, start the program top from command line of MacOSX unix "terminal" and watch the CPU load (~25 % or, when finished, 0 %). The CPU load of 25 % leaves comfortable 75 % CPU work for other tasks.

Xmp3split ReviewPerfect!!! - Version: 1.0, 2/14/2004 09:14PM PST

no brain
I have been looking for something just like this for quite some time. Just want to simply bust up long mp3's into smaller chunks and this does just that. It's very simple to use and extremely fast. Nice that it even puts all the smaller files into a new folder. This should be donationware. Amazingly faster than using an audio app such as Amadeus since there is no conversion involved and doesn't even open the file. Thanks a million to the generous developer!

Xmp3split ReviewPretty bad - Version: 1.0, 9/11/2003 08:21PM PST

Extremely non-intuitive interface. Can only split at one specified time interval. On top of that, it took up so much cpu power that it completely locked up my system until it was done splitting a file.

Xmp3split Reviewneeds 1 thing - Version: 1.0, 9/5/2003 02:37PM PST

support different lengths for all tracks of an mp3 ... say a whole album, vynil, concert recording, book reading... then it would be the right tool and a most wanted one by all mac users. please develop! 5 stars for being on track... although useless for me... i will be checking its developpement

Xmp3split CommentaryAnother option: - Version: 1.0, 7/9/2003 09:46PM PST

If splitting an mp3 file in parts of size x mb is not sufficient for you I can recommend http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/. It has a variety of options and most importantly, it allows you to cut a file from (starting time) to (end time). You have to compile it yourself but this is pretty simple if you have the developer tools installed (you don't need python like for pymp3cut).

Xmp3split CommentaryIf you're not afraid of the terminal... - Version: 1.0, 7/6/2003 07:22AM PST

Try pymp3cut. It has more features and works flawlessly of 10.2.6, but is more difficult to use.

Xmp3split CommentaryNICE! - Version: 1.0, 7/6/2003 04:19AM PST

finally!

but why should it save ipods battery-time?

and be aware, that ipod and itunes make small gaps between tracks in playback. itunes TRIES to hide this by the crossfade-feature, but on the ipod, you have the gaps (mind the gap please, mind the gap). so just splitting a file every 5 minutes without caring for the real lenght of the tracks will add gaps IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRACK!

perhaps s.o. could write a itunes-apple-script wich saves the pointer-position to a file wich a mp3-splitter can read.

Very nice and free!
Still, it'd be much more useful if the user had the option to define the number of segments and the size for each of them. This would be very useful for spliting big mp3 files (eg recorded from vinyl) based on the duration of each track.
As far as I know there is no such tool for the Mac that splits mp3 files without first decoding them, apart from mEdit which is only for OS9 and quite buggy.
Thanks!
