I hate to comment on this product sight unseen, but it seems like the say command distributed with Mac OS X 10.3 and later would do the job just as well.

To read from a file: say -f "myfile.txt" -o "myfile.aiff"

To read from standard input: say -o myfile.aiff (hit CTRL-D to exit)

To read in a different voice: say -v Zarvox -f myfile.txt -o myfile.aiff

Orator ReviewExcellent - Version: 2.0, 7/1/2004 04:27AM PST

Works pretty good, though Apple Speech sucks. Compared to Books2burn and Listen Later, I think I prefer this one, because the GUI is really nice and its free.

Orator Troubleshooting Reportcuts out after a few sentences... - Version: 1.0, 7/5/2003 05:16PM PST

dcoshel
Seems to cut out after just a few sentences. For example, "PROLOGUE

“A HISTORIAN is not just a chronicler of what has been,” the Historian said. “The fruit of his labors is a series of terms from which the future can be extrapolated.

[STOPS SPEAKING HERE] “His significant function is not bookkeeping but prediction.”"
