Product Description:

Detour lets you control where audio from all your programs is going by allowing you to send audio to different output devices on an application-specific basis. This means you can...

...send music from iTunes to your external speakers and keep the annoying beeps and blips of iChat going through your computer's built-in speaker.

...mute any application's sounds all together.

...change the volume of some applications relative to others. Make your email client's alerts quieter, and you'll never again be jarred from work just to receive spam.

What's new in this version:

Detour has been retired from active development. It is now freely available and will automatically register itself, enabling unlimited use.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

if you have an intel mac you can do more or less the same with Audio Hijack Pro

just hijack the program you don't want to make sound and press the mute button.

Would someone PLEEEAAAASE make a menu bar app to mute web browsers (all of them). Personally, I use firefox. Everyday I wish for a way to do this, but after moving to Intel and with the demise of Detour, I am going fracking nuts. I would pay for this functionality. If you are a developer reading this, please consider the value this has for people.

I use it with a iMac G5 and I've noticed when I use Logic Pro and change the sample rate to 96000 I need to make sure I change it back to 44000. If I don't detour will not work. I can do this in Logic before I close it or if I don't remember I can open audio midi setup in the utilities folder and change it there. Its a cool program and works on my system.
