python repeatedly producing 'gmon.out' file - Version: 2007.7.1, 9/4/2007 11:22AM PST

Thank you for compiling a new version of SciSoft for the Max OSX. With the latest version I am noticing that anytime I run a python program (even a simple "Hello World" program) a 3+MB file called 'gmon.out' appears in my current working directory. A quick web search revealed that this file is used for testing during the compiling stage. Is there an easy way to disable this function/feature?
Skycat - Version: 2006.1.2, 2/7/2006 12:14PM PST

I have downloaded the latest version (2006.1.2) of scisoft
MACOS X which advertize Skycat but I cannot find it on
my system. It is not in the scisoft area.
There is a "Skycalc" program but it is quite different
than Skycat.
Best regards and thanks for the MACOS X scisoft, it is
great!

Ah--all those brilliantly-named Unix programs.
ST-ECF zipfile corrupt? - Version: 2005.11.4, 1/25/2006 09:12AM PST

The zipfile obtained from the alternative download seems to be corrupt, the unzipping will get to about 90% before giving a "Not a valid zip-file" error message. Have tried to unpack it using StuffIt 10.0 on the Mac (and WinRAR on windows, unzip on linux). Have not been able to try the file downloaded from STSci yet (the download speed is ~20kb/s so that will take a while...).

To download Scisoft, go to
http://www.stecf.org/scisoft/downloads/2005.3.4/Scisoft_OSX_2005.3.4_Export.pkg.zip
or
http://panoramix.stsci.edu/scisoft/downloads/2005.3.4/Scisoft_OSX_2005.3.4_Export.pkg.zip
The package Scisoft_IRAF_OSX_2005.3.4_Export.pkg.zip that the link above points to is NOT the complete Scisoft package, just a faster version of IRAF for Scisoft.

Advice on Scisoft wanted - Version: 2005.3.4, 5/14/2005 06:46PM PST

Hi. This is not so much feedback, but a request for advice.
I would like to find a Mac software package comparable to the better programs available for windows, i.e. something like 'The SKy' with its full range of features, e.g. ccd control, automation etc. I have looked at the Scisoft developer's site, but there is little detail as to what it does. I would like to find out if Scisoft is the program I want
Does anyone here have any information on Scisoft? Has anyone used Scisoft with amateur telescopes? Does anyone know of a website which desribes an amateur Scisoft observatory?
Any help appreciated.

Had to revert to the 2004.1.6 version which worked fine, though it's only python 2.3.4

Slow downloading? - Version: 2005.3.4, 4/12/2005 01:40PM PST

Downloading Scisoft is pretty fast using Speed Download http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22616
BUT: it seems this new versions has some teething issues:
1- this new version won't install properly on a *case sensitive formatted file system*. The App. folder structure includes folder's names with upper and lower cases, which are not mirrored in the installation/Setup scripts,
E.g. for midas and iraf, the path are given ALL in lower cases will the real path need to be set with upper cases.
2- Some symbolic links follow a path that is incorrect (irespective of Upper/Lower case issue).
