Joel Barriere is a wonderfully talented developer and an obviously very giving person. If we think of all the times his app has saved us from trouble, we might be inclined to send a few dollars via paypal to support his efforts. He really is something special ... I've used all iterations of Onyx over a period of many years, and only a few times did a "hiccup" occur - never a disaster. Keeping up with every path change and OS update, plus doing it all in a tongue not native to him... that's moxie, and that's real talent. A 5-star app from a 10-star developer. Word up, Joel!

Thanks to Joel I don't end up cursing in the direction of Cupertino every time my MacBookPro slows down or hangs. Close the programs/run Onyx/reboot & I'm singing again. This is without a doubt my favorite OSX utility. I run it at least 3 or 4 times a week to keep things humming along. I love this program: THANKS JOEL!!!

OnyX CommentaryThis developer works so hard to get it right -- AT LEAST 102 VERSIONS SINCE JUNE 2003!!! - Version: 2.0.4, 4/16/2009 07:03AM PST

I was just writing a review of iTweax over at MacUpdate.com, and since it's so much like OnyX, my review couldn't help but compare them. So, I surfed over here to VersionTracker to see how many versions of OnyX there have been since its inception, and would you believe there's been at least 102 since June 2003? Now that's dedication to your craft !

I kind of like iTweax because it does many of the same things that OnyX does, but in a much lighter-weight program. But even though iTweax is just at the beginning of its development, there have already been some serious issues that made me thank my lucky stars for Joel and OnyX.

Nevertheless, I'm sure iTweax will improve over time (remember how long it took Joel to get the English translations right?). However, I could never abandon such a skillfully designed and long-tested old warhorse as OnyX (which has taken such good care of my Macs over the years) for some slim, nubile and flashy young startup like iTweax. Come to think of it, I guess I feel pretty much the same way about my wife.

Anyway, Kudos to Joel Barriere for working so long and hard to make the best app in its class, and then continuing to give it away for free (unlike *censored*tail, Yasu, Leopard Cache Cleaner, etc., etc.) !!
