nicelodeonUnfortunately this creates terrible stuttering files that are totally unusable (on PPC at least). Otherwise a great piece of software.

Compression Disaster 4.0

mediaVinciI have tested Compression Disaster Master 4.0
The demo application crashed around 6 times within
5 minutes for the first test run. This is an absolut
"No Go" criteria for me. The app crashes even when
applying very rudimental functions like removing
settings.
The user interface is not really Mac-like.
495$ is a lot of money! Are the bugs included in
that price?
> Compression Master wins award at NAB 2006
... Really? ... what for?
495$ ... that's a lot of money for a piece of
software that has not yet reached final candidate
state. I am wondering why video and audio compression
software is that expensive these days.
Sorry for the bad critique. However, I believe
it's the simple truth.

mp3 Templates do not work - feature request for DVD_VideoTS support

Truth w ChristAlso - CM 4.0 now restricts the "Batch" to 20 items? Not a good update for me. I like to load - say 50 QT music videos at night, and have them crunch until they are done (extract full quality aiff) - maybe a day or so later. Limiting to 20 - if there is no technical reason for this - seems like going backwards from previous versions?
I would like a Template - to take "VideoTS" from multiple DVD's (drag n drop) and compress and create simple menu. Basically combine 2-5 DVD's with a simple menu. I have many "Lecture/instructional" DVD's and want them combined by subject. Toast in video mode allows drag n drop of VTS folders (then delete extraneous files) comes close - but has compression limits.
Overall - this is a great application however - 5 stars.

Bug with WMV->MPEG2 - Version: 3.0.2, 2/12/2005 11:01PM PST
OldMacDude
Unfortunately, if you set in and out points in the WMV file, although the MPEG2 video is encoded properly (and appears to look rather decent BTW), the audio does not encode the correct segment. If you encode the whole movie to MPEG2 beginning to end it seems to work OK. Which is a shame because I wanted to create several subsegments of the movie using the built-in fades, and then combine them with Streamclip. I tried some other audio-only formats, but the result was the same.
Also tried to go from WMV3 to DV for import in FCP, but the video always lost some rows off the bottom, whether using Letterbox or Distort. Also, the DV audio was not complete, but if encoded as a seperate run (audio only) it seemed to work. For this project, I couldn't afford to lose the bottom rows, so no go there.
My last try was to transcode to MPEG4 and import to FCP. That seemed to work, but rendering MPEG4 to work with in FCP was so painfully slow that I gave it up.
Dang.
