I don't have fixed IP addresses (on DSL or cable) so this is a life saver for the remote operation of my machines. Whenever the IP changes (or the service goes down) it notifies me of the change by e-mail. So far it has never crashed or failed. As for CPU cycles used on a G4 or G5 with OS X 10.3.8, it sits at 0% except when it's actually checking the IP address or e-mailing the report. And you can set how often it performs a check in prefs. Ipanema is a utility with a very limited purpose and it performs that function flawlessly for free (although a donation is the only way to turn off a nag screen at start-up). I hope it will still work with Tiger.
Wonderful, but hoggy!

Wonderful! I have it set on an OS X Server box serving me my FTP, VPN, ssh, telnet, www and QTSS services on a dynamic DSL connection (3.0m/384k) and it's a lifesaver to be able to check hotmail to see where my server is at the moment.
The only gripe, and it's a big gripe for me, is that this sucker consumes processor cycles like it's starving. I run it on an old 7600/400MHz G3 machine with a bunch of RAM, and Ipanema consumes a constant 40% all the time. For a server that's already running on sub-par equipment, processor cycles are a precious commodity. For an application that reports IP addresses once every 10 minutes, 40% is 35% too high.

If you need quick info on your network IP's -- Ipanema is the best solution.
Fast, accurate, with a clean elegant interface. If Then Software has done
(as usual) a superb job of keeping Ipanema current, helpful, and attractive.
SUPPORT GREAT SOFTWARE.

script error! - Version: 1.3, 2/19/2004 11:22AM PST

I start it up, it gathers ip info and sends it away just fine. But over time, the program will hang with an error message indicating a script error. I have to then click the "ok" button for the program to essentially reset itself. This has even happened when I have nothing else running and have Ipanema in the foreground.
Dies every few days - Version: 1.3, 10/17/2003 07:32AM PST

On my Powerbook G3, the program crashes every couple of days & I need to reboot. It locks up - I can't even quit. If I force quit, it won't run when I reopen it. I usually find it dead when the outside line has gone down for a moment or two while it's checking, which SBC tends to do with some frequency. So instead of finding a new address, Ipanema just finds 0.0.0.0. I usually find out because mail is blinking giving me an error saying that it can't send mail to "Ipanema User" - as if once the IP resets to 0.0.0.0, it ignores the address I've put in Ipanema's preferences. I then have to reboot in order for it to start working again, and it'll still fail if for some reason my computer can't connect to the internet at startup. I use a firewall, does Ipanema use a specific port I need to enable? It works most of the time, though; it only fails when the IP is 0.0.0.0.

Everything now displays correctly! Recommended utility.
Works as advertised...

...but the display window is just a little bit to narrow to display my full internal IP address - it chops off half the last digit! The author has promised to fix this. Otherwise, a very very useful tool for those with non-static IPs who need remote access.

Icon bounces in the dock then closes, even after a reboot.
