Product Description:

Impression is a backup application for Mac OS X, offering a reliable utility that backs up data to and restores it from CDs, DVDs or hard drives.

Features include:
  • Cocoa-based application, GUI backup and restore operations. Beautiful, streamlined interface.
  • Impression offers the ability to back up small or large file sets to multiple optical discs (CD-R, CD-RW or DVD-R) or to disk images on locally mounted media.
  • Archives can be written to pax archives using the open-standard hfspax tool or simply file-copied to the backup destination.
  • Backup session information is saved and managed and incremental/differential backups can be based on previous backups with just an extra click.
  • Advanced tools include disk image compression options, grep-compliant regex pattern file exclusions and MD5 file checksum file validation to offer significant "peace of mind" after restoration.
  • Large files are segmented between discs and can be rejoined automatically when restoring from hfspax archives, or manually when restoring from file copy-based archives.
  • Files can be restored back into place or to a location of the operator's choosing. Permissions can be preserved and files can optionally be overwritten.
  • A handy CD-RW disc erasing utility is included.
  • Thorough error checking and clear prompt and logging messages are used throughout the application.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed a bug when running under OS X 10.3, a.k.a. "Panther", in which the application would crash when one of Impression's registered file types was double-clicked or drag-and-dropped over Impression's icon. This fix also takes care of the crash that occurred under OS X 10.3 after segmented files had been rejoined.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2.x or 10.3.x
  • BSD subsystem (part of a default OS X install)
  • iTunes/Disc Burner-supported CD-R/W or DVD-R drive (if archiving to CD/DVD)
  • Free drive space on the startup drive, computed at runtime based on backup size

I’m using Impression 3.0 (93) on a Powerbook G4 1.25. I’ve used older versions for about 19 months now. Considering this software is no longer in development or being supported I hope Impression 3.0 continues to cruise along with Mac OS 10.5+ and play nice long into the future.

Impression Troubleshooting ReportProblem at end of Burn/Verification - EVERY TIME - Version: 2.81, 11/12/2005 08:42AM PST

Truth w Christ
I have been unable to get past the first DVD (1 of 27) in my attempt to archive data.

Impression does all the right stuff - until at the end of "verify burn", it says there was / is an error in my optical drive. I use a dual 2.7 G5 and have never had any problems w my optical drive.

I tried an alternate burner (external Pioneer) and it also gets same error!

PLEASE FIX - This App is needed! Thanks
