Product Description:

Internet Cleanup 4.0 for Macintosh protects users' privacy and enhances their Internet experience. Internet Cleanup's comprehensive solution blocks users private information from being transmitted over the Internet without their approval, helps manage Instant Messenger (IM) chat logs, selectively blocks Flash ads, and gives users greater control over their Internet experience.

What's new in this version:

  • NOW UNIVERSAL BINARY - Works natively with Intel and PowerPC based Macintoshes.
  • NEW! PERSONAL INFO PROTECTOR - Personal Info Protector provides users with a secure place to store all account numbers, passwords and any other sensitive information. It eliminates the high-risk of using unprotected sticky notes or spreadsheets to store easily forgotten but important information, and prevents it from being transmitted across the Internet.
  • NEW! BLOCKS FLASH ADS - Flash ads take forever to load and can be distracting. With NetBlockade users now have the luxury of seeing only the Flash content that they want.
  • UPDATED! DETECT THE LATEST SPYWARE - SpyAlert scans the computer for evidence of surveillance Spyware and safely removes it.
  • NEW! MAILCLEANER FILTERS ATTACHMENTS WITH SMART RULES - MailCleaner now includes Smart Rules. Smart rules allow users to create search criteria that can filter out or find email attachments based upon file name, sender, file size, date, time and more.
  • NEW! GREATER MAILCLEANER SUPPORT FOR APPLE MAIL - MailCleaner allows users to organize or delete Apple Mail attachments by moving them to selected folders.
  • NEW! SELECTIVE HISTORY EDITING - Internet History Cleaner protects user privacy by cleaning out specific sites from history lists, deleting those that compromise privacy.

Version 5.1 has been out since the beginning of October 2009. After installing version 5.0.4, I had to reinstall the OS to get going again. v5.1 is working so far. I'm treating it with caution.

Beware, this application has not been updated to be compatible with OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard. For as long as Apple has had copies for developers, it's incredible that this Vendor has not seen fit to upgrade this application.

Yesterday I got my computer back from the shop. It's only the second time in 15 years I've had to take it in. IC did a real number on my system--inserted things into folders, showed hidden folders, basically rendered my computer unusable with a constantly reappearing warning message that not only wouldn't go away but kept me from using anything else on the computer. The tech who fixed it said it is a very common complaint with this software. I read the warnings pre-download but hoped my experience would be different. I actually had a good experience for almost a year. I don't know of another software package with the kinds of features IC had. As I said, it worked pretty well. Coincidentally(?), I downloaded iTunes 7.7 before the problems began and lots-o-people had problems with that version of iTunes.
