MusicPublisher ReviewAwesome! - Version: 1.0b8, 9/7/2005 05:30PM PST

This little app does what iTunes can't! It lets you share music from your iPod! It's truly awesome! Let all your co-workers listen to your music collection! Not steal, just listen!

I thought iTunes 5 released today, may have broken it though. Appears that it is OK. The only thing different I noticed is that the iPod no longer show's up in my own shared folder. It used to in 4.9. No problem. I have the full iPod direcory anyway. The only thing that was nice about it showing up before, was that you could tell right away if the sharing was working. No big.

This is truly an awesome app! Nice job!

MusicPublisher Reviewno good for very large collections - Version: 1.0b8, 5/19/2005 09:39AM PST

If you have a very large collection of files this program struggles, and will probably crash.
The authors of this program don't respond to feedback or questions.
Still, I guess its free so I shouldn't expect it to actually work should I....

A tip for those getting errors like "The shared music library "iPod" is not accessible for an unknown reason. (-3260)
Check that any firewall softawre running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port [2000, and others]."

Change the port on which MusicPublisher runs. If you have iTunes running on the maching with sharing active then you can not share from both iTunes and MusicPublisher on the same port. This is one of the very few things documented, not sure how people miss it. (It is a simple enough app that documentation is largely superfluous though.)

I find the app very useful in that I have 2 iTunes libraries that I use on my PB with regularity (One on my powerBook hard drive with only about 1000 songs, one on a FW drive with ~9000) This allows me to run the local library all the time and use MusicPublisher to "share" my firewire library with myself. This is easier for me then switching back an forth between the two libraries.
