As has been mentioned previously, the GUI is outstanding and it is truly a Mac app. Unfortunately, it is not a project management software. A few examples. There are no sub-tasks. You cannot have a process as they call it that then has task assigned to it. There is no way to put the tasks in the order you want. There is no way to specify which days in the calendar are working or off.
They are prompt about getting back with a response (in poor English, the company is French I believe), but it usually consists of "that feature is not available yet." They basically have the attitude that since upgrades are free it is tough luck if the software doesn't really do what there website says and the screenshots look like.
One bright spot is the iCal integration is great.
Too bad because I wanted this program to work.

I have been trying out the demo of xTime and imported a relatively simple ms project file with 131 tasks. It took 30+ minutes to import (something that PMX and iTaskX can do in 20 seconds) and it consumed 100% of my cpu and over 500mb of RAM to do this. Further, it makes the year 2020 for any ms project file I import. Switching views is just plain painful and consumes 100% of my cpu. The program does look great, but the developers need to work on the performance.

App4Mac is the kind of company where you just wish they would come up with great products: Mac only, very nice interfaces and products that fill a slot. I have bought xTime already some time ago, but to be honest I have never been really satisfied with it. There are app's that feel comfortable right away. You never really know what it is, but it just does what you want it to and it feels great to work with it. In those app's you seldom to never come across irrationalities. Alas xTime is not that kind of app. Since I started using version 1 there are always these strange missing functionalities, things that make me wonder if there is a marekting guy in that company between all thode techies. I give you an example: you can make a report, but the listing of your activities are not in chronical timetable order and there is no way you can correct it. You can't even copy the page unto antoher app. Maybe I do something wrong, but whatever it is, it irritates.
And by the way: also on my powerbook it crashes.
I really hope those guys get it together, because I have great sympathy for Mac only developers.

Maybe you should have waited until you had 3.0 available before you removed the 2.5 trial version.
Nice piece of an app.

I bought this software few days ago and it feels great. At least for my needs. Maybe because I am an art director, I feel much better if applications are good looking and produce good looking results. Looking forward to see xTime progress in the future.

Mr Mike Kaplan, A crash report is not useful if we have not the steps before you crash ! We always wanted to fix your problem but you never wanted to send more information about your crash. We don't understand why you say that it's a waste of time. If you send our emails, don't forget to send your agrressive email !!We think that you are not honnest because you would have statement that we have always wanted to help you to fix your problem. But you never wanted to answser to request of our engineers. It's very easy to critic a product. Again, when a problem is found, we always fix it but we need to find where the problem is and customer help is needed.
Customer Service? Hmmmmmm...... - Version: 2.5.2, 10/26/2004 09:37PM PST

You send them a detailed crash report and they don't know what to do with it!! Their tech support and customer service staff has accused me of lying and has refused to even discuss a refund. Further, they threatened to "blacklist" my credit card because I told them if they wouldn't give me a refund, I'd contact my credit card company. What an amateur outfit!
The irony of this situation is that I work for a major aerospace company and I am in the process of evaluating Project Management s/w alternatives to MS Project on Virtual PC. Their atitude has cost them significant sales from my company as I have already recommended that we go in a different direction.
Like I said, stay away from these guys. If you want more details, including the email dialog that I had with their tech support and customer support staff, feel free to email me.
My son and I are building a house and he is 200 miles away from me at the work site. This application allows me to build a Gantt chart that everyone understands and also allows me to keep track of spending although excel is also a great help in this regard. I can publish the calendar to the web so that everyone can see it. This is very useful for all parties. They can see how they impact the critical path.
I handle risk management elsewhere and excel covers me for procurement information. I just needed a quick way to produce a Gantt chart. A picture is worth a thousand words.
With this tool and excel I have it covered. I am happy that I got what I paid for.
