Product Description:

BoomBot is a developer's framework for writing a bot connecting to the AIM network. It manages the network communication for the bots so that they can be easily written without worrying about AIM itself at all. Core personalities that hook directly into the application are written in Objective-C, but a personality to load Lua scripts exists. (And, of course, it is possible to write one for Perl, Python, or any other embeddable language!)

What's new in this version:

Many, many changes over the past few years. The most major include:
  • Major reorganization and cleanup of BBTOC
  • BBTOC interface and plugin protocol redesign
  • Lua bindings via new Lua personality
  • New Mirror external example personality
  • Further improved documentation
  • Universal binary support

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • Written and tested under OS X 10.4.10 (PPC and Intel); may work with earlier operating systems
  • but is untested.

See http://boombot.sourceforge.net/ - BoomBot has been resurrected. As of this time, there are no new releases, but the code in SVN at the SourceForge site has been updated to work with the modern AIM network.

BoomBot has broken with AOL's semi-recent updates to the AIM network. I'm working on getting a new version of libfiretalk merged in (or possibly another library, if the new one doesn't work).

WHY exactly, do we need MORE bots on AIM?

Adding more bots to AIM is like saying the Sahara Desert doesn't have enough sand.
