Envoy ReviewOverpriced Garbage - Version: 1.0, 4/20/2006 09:44PM PST

Xeater
Envoy captures the state of stand-alone downloading managers circa 1995. Features are limited, settings are buried in new windows rather than being given toolbar status, and integration with browsers is poor.

The final insult is that the developer expects $18 for such crapware. Unbelievable.

For full-featured, cutting edge download managers, $25 will get you iGetter or Speed Download. I prefer iGetter for its simplicity and free upgrades, but both are fine choices.

Gnutella? There are myriad Gnutella clients which are vastly more powerful than Envoy. They are also free. Acqlite, Poisoned, Cabos are just a few.

Envoy Reviewbetter than Get-a-Matic, but still lacking - Version: 1.0, 4/9/2006 05:25AM PST

screwversiontracker
I have to start by saying that Envoy works quite well for downloading. However, there are a number of irritants and lacking items.

1) Truncating of file names (no purpose, forces you to append an extension before opening files)

2) Requirement to confirm every addition to the queue.

3) No help system (or even a link to the developers' website, which incidentally doesn't work anyway)

4) Can't handle HTML representation of spaces in filenames (e.g. %20 or %2520)

5) The icon leaves something to be desired.

These problems are forcing me to once again look for another download manager.
