AnaBuilder ReviewThe best tool, and Free! - Version: 2.45.2beta7, 1/14/2005 08:09AM PST

AnaBuilder now has an excellent GUI, although you will need to read some documentation to understand the buttons, even with the pop-up button descriptions. This is to be expected; In a word processor, we have all learned what they can do, and most programs work in a similar way. AnaBuilder is new and we don't have much experience with similar programs. One interface oddity: There is one window. If you close it, the program quits.
I have tried to build anaglyphs in Photoshop, and they don't look great. All you have to do is put the red channel from one picture into the other picture, then align the points to be at the monitor depth, and crop. But alignment is no always easy, and colors can cause things to appear black in on eye, and white in the other. AnaBuilder has tools to desaturate reds and blues so they don't distract your eyes. It has many other useful tools as well.
(To the authors: Thanks for your work. Versiontracker is used by some ungrateful people who love to criticize. Pay no attention.)

AnaBuilder CommentaryThere is a GUI - Version: 2.45.2beta7, 1/13/2005 11:01PM PST

Thank for the positive comment.

You wrote : "(and we wait patiently for a GUI.)"

But, this latest beta7 is now Os X compliant, and no more shows any terminal..

AnaBuilder is a full graphics software, not a Unix command line tool..

Cheers.

I had a look at RedGreen,

I wrote that AnaBuilder is the only "real" software to build stereo photos. I mean that their exist other small softwares, but their features are so limited that they don't bring much more than few easy manipulations in a basic image tool..

For more stereo Mac tools, see in the "competitors" page of AnaBuilder's web site.

(And for RedGreen, it is not a freeware, but a shareware..)

Cheers.

I really do not understand these kind of comments !

My software is used by many stereoscopy addicts for a long time now. You can have a look at the user link page and all around by a quite search on google if you want !

Is the Mac world so hostile to all generous efforts to finally discourage freeware authors because a "superficial" considerations about the look and the standard ?

Don't be surprised if you will finally be obliged to pay for evrything.. when it exists !

Cheers.

try look at a bit of software called Red Green. With all the comments regarding opening the terminal window I don't even want to think about trying this software.

If you find my freeware one of the less Mac Os X like application, I find your comment one of the less friendly I ever read !

I'm trying to do my best to deliver you freely what is one of the best software to build stereo. More than this, it is the only real software for Mac on that subject !

If you don't like my software, ok. But, please, it would be nice be a little respectful of my work, again offered freely !

Cheers.

AnaBuilder CommentaryVery scary! - Version: 2.45.0, 1/9/2005 08:26PM PST

After running this application, this is the MOST NON-APPLE-LIKE application I have EVER seen!! Yea, it works once you can get past the fear that something has opened your Terminal window, and leaves the whole UNIX vulnerable. I never got to the point of playing with the application. I am VERY SURE you can run Java aps without using the UNIX terminal. This ap goes back to the DOS age. Amigas weren't this scary. In my 12 years of using Macs, I have NEVER seen anything like this!!!

My advice to the developer is to learn how to use the VERY simple, completely non-Windows-like, AppleScript to launch your program, NOT Terminal!!! While you're at it, put all of those confusing files into a single folder, and keep the "thing you click on" outside.

I am a graphics artist and NOT a DOS programmer. Keep this craziness for the XP people that are accustomed to this 1980's insanity. Learn more about the Mac environment, its users and GUI if you want any level of success with us. Good luck!!

AnaBuilder CommentaryInstaller - Version: 2.45.0, 1/9/2005 08:02PM PST

Apple has a totally free and very cool installer called PackageMaker. It comes with the Developer Tools and is found in Developer > Aplications > Utilities > PackageMaker. This will create the installer that all Apple users are very familiar with and is what Apple themselves use for all of their software installs.

More info at http://developer.apple.com/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/SoftwareDistribution/Concepts/sd_install_quick_look.html

Doing cheap ports from XP to Mac is never a good idea. Mac users expect quality. This is why Mac users can seem more picky. Apple has established very high standards, such as no freezes, smooth/simple installs, good GUI and graphics, and this is what the users expect. If you want someone to bolt your cup holder into their Porsche, it better look good and perform well.

Happy to see you are ok now.

If you are a beginner, stereoscopy is easy to start, but it takes a long time to really handle all difficulties. Don't hesitate to ask for some advices (my email is on all pages of the web site).. Or subscribe to one of the few specialized discussion lists : some are very good to exchange and learn !

Hope you will enjoy stereoscopy and AnaBuilder.
