Product Description:

Export Artwork is a shareware AppleScript Studio application for use with iTunes on Mac OS X. It's main function is to extract the Artwork from the selected track's ID3 tag and copy it to an image file in a chosen location.

It is also a fully fledged Artwork manager as it can fetch album covers over the Internet and embed Artwork to the ID3 tag, making it a great tool to update your cover collection as your music library grows.

For those of you who have already filled your library's worth of mp3 / m4a (AAC) files with the Artwork, but want to remove it from the ID3 tag to keep the file size down, and still keep all those album covers, or if you're looking for a way to compile all your album covers for a database or gallery, here is a solution to export Artwork back into it's own file.

What's new in this version:

  • Maintenance release for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) compatibility.

  • This update is free for registered users.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

Export Artwork ReviewSimply the Best - Version: 4.1.3, 6/6/2006 05:12PM PST

This is the first time I've been compelled to review a product on VersionTracker. I tried all the rest, but this is the best. I don't understand why the rating isn't 5 stars. My only complaint before was the slowness (I used it on a PowerBook G4 awhile ago), but now this Universal Binary version flies on my new MacBook Pro. I lost all my artwork when I backed up to a PC and then copied files back to my new MacBook, but Export Artwork saved the day.

Export Artwork Reviewfinal errors on ID3 tag - Version: 4.0.1, 10/29/2005 05:16AM PST

On 10-08-2005 the artwork ran on a 17000 song library when 1349 songs became corrupt on the ID3 tag. Allthough the support was very helpfull at start still no solution or reason was found. Here 's a list of errors on the ID3 Tags:
- Could not duplicate cover image. (-43) Finder got an error: File some object wasn't found. --> results in crash of itunes
- Could not embed Artwork. (-208) iTunes got an error: An error of type -208 has occurred. --> results in song no longer playable
- Could not embed Artwork. (-39) iTunes got an error: End of file error. --> results in crash of itunes
- Could not embed Artwork. (-45) iTunes got an error: File some object is locked.--> results in crash of itunes
- Could not embed Artwork. (-50) iTunes got an error: Parameter error. --> results in crash of itunes
- File not found. (-1728) --> no impact
If someone has encountered same issues, or even better can resolve corrupted Tags, please notify. IN the past Export artwork worked fine, but first I want this issue be resolved before using further, to avoid further tag problems.
Kind regards,
Peter

I've been looking for something like this for absolutely ages. I've tried everything I could find on versiontracker: Clutter, Album Cover Finder, Fetch Art; you name it, I've (probably) tried it. And the best I'd found before was the Artwork Search in Media Rage.

What made that better than the rest? The overview of several covers; and multiple stores to choose from. This latter is essential, as far as I'm concerned. I'm English and live in Germany, and have a lot of cds that just don't exist on Amazon.com. In Clutter you can check several stores (includine Amazon.de) but have to enter the preferences to do so; in FetchArt you actually have to restart the application to search in a different store. In Media Rage those stores are right above the preview window. Great. Only no Amazon.de.

Enter Export Artwork. This can be set to search any of 6 Amazon stores. I've never seen an app that search the French Amazon store - great for Les Negresses Vertes. It can even be set to search them all at once all at once!

And that's not the least of it. Export Artwork can also look through your entire library and make a playlist of only those songs which are missing artwork - then go through each piece and add artwork (similar to FetchArt, but much less traumatic). It has a very elegent HTML export function (which seems to be missing an index, but there has to be room for improvement). It will resize your artwork - and you can specify that it should only do so if the original is larger than the target size (great for home-made scans). And that's all without even talking about the export functions.

Buying advice: if you need all the tools which (the $30) Media Rage has on offer - and it has a truly impressive array - then that is your application of choice. For the pure and simple album artwork fanatic, it has to be Export Artwork.
