Televio Usage TipTelevio is now Alchemy! - Version: 1.7.1, 4/28/2004 10:37AM PST

markyboymac
Registered Televio users can now download and register (using your Televio serial) the AlchemyTV and associated DVR app's. This means you get access to the Alchemy PVR functions which sync with iCal and make scheduled recordings.

Very cool...

Get the Alchemy download from the normal Televio download page.

Alles korrekt so weit. Aber warum akzeptiert Televio meine SN nicht mehr? Würde mich mal interessieren. Oder liegt es an Panther selbst?
Ansonsten scheint das Programm ja zu laufen. Jedenfalls bis zum nächsten Demo-Screen.

thx

Televio CommentaryNew version looks great so far - Version: 1.7.1, 12/5/2003 05:07PM PST

After months of giving up on this product, I just downloaded and installed the latest version of the software on Panther. Right away, everything worked as it should. I noticed that there was a new selector that clearly stated what type of connection to use (USA-antenna for me). Once I selected that, all the normal VHF and UHF channels were immediately available, and they all worked just like my TV. I did not have any color issues or sound issues as I had before. Unfortunately, with the clean installation of Panther, I lost my registration code so I could only test the product for a few minutes before the demo screen came up. I'll post a full review once I find my code and test all of the features.

Televio Reviewxbox and televio - Version: 1.7, 9/30/2003 10:15AM PST

has anyone tried to connect a game console. I do know someone tried with an eye tv unit but the fram rate was slow due to usb based system. I would think with the televio it should be better.

MY Dilema: I live in a small studio and would like to use the televio as a tv/game card with my xbox. I currently have a 20 dvi monitor don't know if that is also an issue. ANy feedback would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Televio ReviewThis product is GREAT! - Version: 1.7, 9/25/2003 09:28AM PST

I loved this tv tuner since day one! The quality is the best i have seen from both PCI and Firewire devices. They give excellent feedback when needed and are working hard to improve the software (I still would like to program the recorder; give them 4 stars because of that).
Keep up the good work!

Televio ReviewIt's Not So Bad - Version: 1.6.4, 9/16/2003 02:12PM PST

iusedtoberich: I had the same trouble with setting the preset channel lineup for about 10 minutes until I realized the bold stations are the ones that are set that way by the little black circle in the 3rd or 4th column (I don't have the software in front of me at the moment). Once I set those up properly I had a much better experience.

I lose sound on all channels if I surf too fast. The only way I've found to regain the sound is to restart the computer (probably power-cycling the tuner is all that's necessary, but I doubt there's an easier way to do this). But I've never lost sound on only the UHF channels.

I do agree that the software is generally unintuitive and un-mac-like, but it's not unusable. On the other hand, I use BTV (best $20 I ever spent on software) to capture, and with this card I've never had a single problem with the captured files (image quality included). In fact, I traded in my Dazzle firewire device for the Televio, and I'm happier with the Televio for the following reasons. One, the tuner, so I can stop using my vcr just for tuning (along the same lines I have one fewer firewire doodad on my desk). And Two, the Dazzle used to skip when the capture couldn't keep up, whereas the Televio seems to capture the sound intact and just lower the framerate. If I must accept dropped frames (whatever that reason may be), this is by far a better compromise. Also, this product doesn't suffer from the poor gamma adjustment of Apple's DV drivers.

I also have a lot of troubles with the remote. I've gotten settings to work with Quicktime Player, but never gotten a global setting to work. And recently the remote hasn't worked at all. I will check out this plastic casing mis-match that several people have mentioned when I get home.

All in all, I am very pleased with the hardware, and the software is adequate for casual use here and there, and I managed to write an applescript to change the channel so I can leave BTV to record anything while I'm gone. So it's usable to the point that I don't have to worry about it. Anyway, I know this is supposed to be a review of the software, but the hardware is important too, and I wanted to say that not everyone who tries it hates it :) I would give the hardware 4 stars, and 5 if it had hardware compression and/or deinterlacing

Televio Developer NoteTelevio Facts - Version: 1.6.4, 9/16/2003 11:05AM PST

Dirk_Musfeldt_1
This might be interesting to know: PCI card: The card has a standard coaxial RF TV cable connector (F connector). I cannot understand StrikeOut's complaint. TV window: The TV window has non-standard roll-over buttons to close or minimize them. They work as advertised but have a slightly longer reaction threshold. Automatic channel scan: All the channels technically possible are shown in the setup dialog. But only selected stations are displayed in the TV window. You can change these settings manually. And of course all of them have sound. Changing channels takes about 0.5 secs. Recording: I have to admit that we have a bug in 1.6.4 that sometimes prevents recording. Just set "Frames per second" to "Best" to work around that. That will be solved soon. And of course you can't capture window sizes larger than the technically possible. The TV window shows the show while you record it. We work hard and try to help with every support issue. But sometimes you can't serve everybody right.

Televio ReviewGREAT REVIEW OF VERY BAD PRODUCT - Version: 1.6.4, 9/16/2003 08:41AM PST

Read the review below. It's great and absolutely spot on. This is a very bad product. The card probably works OK, but the software hardly works at all despite v1.6.4. Worse than the software is developer support. About all they do is shrug, scratch they head, and say, 'Hmmm. that happens sometimes.'

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT from anyone but me. And I'll sell it to you cheap. It came from Dr. Bott. Their service is to send you to the developer who's too busy quaffing down German beer to put together a product that actually works before trying to sell it.

The review below (not mine; obvious style differences) is one of the best I've read of a really crummy product.

Buyer Beware. I've purchased Formac's DV product and El Gato's Eye TV. Formac's video quality is remarkable. Very good. Software sucks and breaks regularly. El Gato (same folks who worked on Roxio's Toast) did it right except it's MPEG 1, not 2. That product works as advertised. Very slick.
