Unbelievable. Two major features PEOPLE & CHAT and PHOTOs have been removed from the Mac client version of this software. Why? MSN Customer Support claims the Mac "isn't capable of handling these features." Yet we are expected to pay the same price as Windows users who get both of these features... Customer Service told me that I could access the chat features through http://chat.msn.com but when you visit that site from any Mac browser, including MS Internet Explorer, you get the error "MSN Chat is not currently compatible with your Internet browser and/or computer operating system."

Go: as with AOL and most (if not all) Internet service providers, you will need to give your payment information before you can try them out. Since you don't get charged until after your 2-month trial, there is nothing to worry about.
As for the lengthy post made by Wet Apple, I'm sorry to say that you are wrong. MSN is not free just because you have a Hotmail or Passport account. Although you can use an existing Hotmail/Passport email address as your new MSN screen name, you will still need to pay to use the service. As of right now, they are offering a 2-month free trial where you can test out the service (for free), but then you have to pay afterwards. AOL has similar offers. Also, if you are paying full-price to use your MSN service over your broadband, then you are paying too much. They have a different plan for less than 10 dollars a month for people with existing broadband connections.

At first glance it appeared MSN for OS X would be a more polished interface than AOL, with more features. Sadly though, it is full of bugs and terrible tech support. I have started a goup on MSN for users who want to work through the bugs, at http://groups.msn.com/macmasters - I think MSN can be MUCH better than AOL if they get these bugs out and make the interface more useable, so I'll stick around for a little while.
