Product Description:

There are a lot of FTP clients for the Mac. None, however, worked as we wanted FTP to work, and that's why we created FTPeel. We spend 50% of our time in traditional FTP clients switching to the right directory (or site), so we created the MagicMirror. We were annoyed with how complex bookmark management was, so we have a single checkbox. We were annoyed at the choices available for navigation, so we created an FTP client that switches seamlessly between column and list view. We like to view files in a variety of ways, so we put in a wealth of preferences (and a quick filter box too).

There's a reason we say that FTPeel is Simply Powerful FTP.

What's new in this version:

  • FTPeel now runs on Mac OS X 10.2.x again.
  • Fixed several SFTP bugs, many of which were preventing users from logging in.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when attempting to save in an external editor when the window with the file was previously closed.
  • Fixed an uncaught exception that occurred when Cut, Copy, or Paste was chosen in list view.
  • Fixed the problem where the application froze after dragging and dropping to the Finder in list view.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred after dragging two or more files to the Finder and then quitting. • Improvements:
  • FTPeel now has improved path component handling. Users should now be able to use the tilde (~) as a path component, and users should now be able to enter directories they have permission to read when they don't have permission to read the parent.
  • When dragging folders out of list view, the icon used is that of a folder instead of a file.
  • When doing a drag-and-drop upload in column view, users can now drag into the column's empty space, rather than being forced to drag onto any existing file(s).
  • Magic mirroring no longer requires the directory structure to be present on the server before deep-mirroring can occur.
  • The "Get Info" window now shows the selected item's permissions mask as a number as well as checking the correct boxes. • New features:
  • Added drag-and-drop download support to column view, finally!
  • Added the ability to create new files on the server, and immediately open them in an external editor.
  • Added a new Security preference pane with the following new preferences:
  • An option to control logging passwords in the connection log in FTP and FTP-SSL.
  • SFTP can now use OpenSSH's DSA and RSA key files to do public key

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.3 or later
  • Version 1.1 will support 10.2 or later

Nearly two years since an update, this app's shortcomings are painfully evident when you compare it to Transmit or CyberDuck. Avoid.

I switched to the Mac platform in '99 from using Windows for more than seven years (early 90's) and one of my few disappointments was the lack of good FTP software. Some software had a horrible FTP engine so my uploads would never make it without restarted five or six times. Some software had a clunky interface or looked like a 10-year-old made the GUI. I found FTPeel last month and bought it after only a couple of hours of playing with it. My first reaction was, "I get all this for $19? You have to be kidding me!" FTPeel is far from perfect (most FTP programs are), but I gave it a 5-star rating because it's the best the Mac has to offer!

FTPeel ReviewEliminates the busywork of ftp - Version: 1.1.4, 9/29/2004 03:00PM PST

This little app has transformed the way I update Websites. I set up Magic Mirrors for all my sites, and now I just drag all modified or new files to the FTPeel dock icon to upload. No more switching windows between servers, and no overwriting the wrong "index.html" file because I targeted the wrong directory.

Traditional ftp chores like browsing remote directories, deleting files and changing permissions can be done effortlessly.

I never thought I'd pay for an ftp app (had been using RBrowser Lite and ncFTP) but the few bucks is worth the time and hassle I'm being saved.

FTPeel takes about 3 minutes to learn.
