If you are not happy with this application try Audio Recorder. It's freeware and I'm very happy using it.

Sound Recorder Reviewnice app - Version: 1.1, 11/25/2006 01:14PM PST

Simple, nice and working.

Only drawback: the storage during recording does not take place in the final format. The intermediate file becomes really huge when recording a meeting. 3 hours = 12 GB. Because of the data transfer the fan sometimes starts on my Powerbook which creates background noise.

It would be even better when it could immediately do the encoding to mp3.

I was looking for a product that would allow me to copy audiotapes onto my computer to use in PowerPoint presentations. I was told this program was the way to go, and I can attest that it does work. It is not a program that has lots of bells and whistles, but it does EXACTLY what I want it to do! While the program does not have a help feature, the developer is accessible by email and responded to me within 24 hours. I was using the program but not going to the file menu to stop recording, I was just closing the program when the recording was complete. Turns out if you do NOT stop recording the file is unusable. The developer explained this to me without making me feel like a total cretin! :-)
