Product Description:

iNotify allows you to customize your computer by creating buttons on your desktop or menu bar, and pop-up notifications that appear in response to system or application events. Buttons have rollover and click states, can be translucent and animated, and execute AppleScripts when clicked. Notifications appear in the foreground and then fade away, just like the speaker image that's displayed when you press the volume keys on the keyboard.
Several examples are provided, including mail notifications for Mail and Entourage, and menu bar buttons to control iTunes.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

iNotify ReviewGreat but not fully there for me. - Version: 1.0.2, 3/1/2007 08:28PM PST

This has great potential. However, most of my scripts are bundle apps so the user can drop files/folders onto the script and have them processed. If this functionality could be added to iNotify I'd run it throughout the studio!

And for those complaining it is too technical, learn some AppleScript and get over yourselves... The more techy the notes the better, I say!

iNotify ReviewHas Developer Disappeared? - Version: 1.0.2, 11/30/2005 09:04PM PST

I really like this software. As an AppleScripter, I like the easy ability to show images and to create buttons to do things from a script. What's missing is that clicking a button doesn't return an event to the AppleScript that created it. A further problem arises because the contact address at the developer's web site bounces. Not a good sign. In the rating therefore, I'd have to say that support is non-existant, but the documentation and examples are good.

iNotify is a background application (or daemon, if you prefer), so double-clicking it will appear to do nothing because it has no user interface. If you just want to use iNotify as a nice, visual notification that you've received email (as many people do on a daily basis), then there are step-by-step instructions in the script named "Example - A Notification". As stated in the documentation, just use the Script Editor application to open the script and read the instructions - it's actually pretty easy.

However, make no mistake, to exploit the full potential of this software, you need to understand some simple Applescript. Perhaps this means you need to be an "uber-geek" to use it (though I would disagree), but it doesn't diminish the usefulness of the software. Not knowing how to use the software doesn't mean the software has no use (or that it should receive a one-star rating).

Anyone who has emailed me for assistance knows I'm more than willing to help if you have problems with my software.
