IP Address Menu ReviewShameless trawl for cash - Version: 5.2, 5/23/2009 12:09PM PST

This is a shameless money-grab. Rather than come up with better words, I second what a former reviewer stated below:

''If you want to line the developer's pockets with money and/or you have no interest in giving it away to charitable causes then go ahead and waste it on this application. At the same time you might as well pay for the other garbage that AlphaOmega has in its inventory of junk that is duplicated by the OS or by freeware. If you really want an app that sits in your menubar and gives you your ip and local ip and also advises you by email when your connection is down or when it is back up then install BwanaDik it is freeware and so far 10,000 Mac users have installed it. Don't be a SHMOE and go for this absolute waste of your hard earned money.''

I have personally used BwanaDik for years now and it only gets better and is FREE. It does everything this does.

I urge anyone to use BwanaDik and send a donation to a favorite charity.

Not worth spending money on something like this when the application does this exact same notification easier. No ip in the menu bar with Wimp but who needs it if you get notification when it changes?

IP Address Menu ReviewPay? For what? There are better ones free -- sheesh! - Version: 3.1, 12/18/2006 11:24AM PST

Seriously folks -- someone really wasted their time or is simply trying to catch some idiots here ready to throw their dollars away on something you can get free. What's the deal with this sort of thing? Should do your research and see what's free before paying for anything here.

FREE: BwanaDik (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25238)

It does everything plus better -- and it's FREE!

IP Address Menu Commentaryusername and password - Version: 3.0, 11/25/2005 11:00AM PST

When sending the IP vs e-mail, the app requests the username and password, which is not necessary in most setups. According to the developer, when it isn't required, it does not have to be entered, but the app should say that. Otherwise people might be reluctant (as I was) to use the app because they don't want to give their username and password.

Although I agree that there are other freeware utilities out there, I have been using this application for well over a year and absolutely cannot live without it.

It is simple, elegant and very useful. I think the developer has done a great job. I do not think this is a rip off at all - and I highly recommend it.

The fact that you can see, at all times, all of the interfaces at the same time is invaluable.

Save your money: If you can't live without your IP address right under your nose, there are 2 freeware apps there at VT that will do the same job. Just type "IP address menu" in the "search for software" field to find them. They both get high (and non faked) ratings and are considerably lighter (47k download) than this rip-off.

IP Address Menu Commentarya good beginning... - Version: 1.0, 5/13/2003 08:00PM PST

The email notification is a great addition, but I would suggest that the author add the ability to post the IP on a web page (a simple html file and an ftp process does it). Other utilities do this but are not very elegant (DropIP and IP Reporter). Once this is done, it becomes easy to let your family and friends connect to your computer by giving them the web address of your box.
