Product Description:

DVDxDV is widely used through-out the television and film industry to create broadcast quality video from standard DVDs. Many prominent television shows, such as, Frontline on PBS, have used DVDxDV to create high quality video from DVD. DVDxDV is a program designed to extract your movies off of a DVD. After a DVD is created, the original source material can get lost or damaged. When this happens, there is no easy way to get the video off the DVD and back into the computer where it can be re-edited. DVDxDV makes it easy to get at your video when it's on DVD. With DVDxDV you can quickly convert the DVD video back into any Quicktime video format. From there, it can be re-edited and burned onto a new DVD.

DVDxDV ReviewGreat Program! - Version: 1.39.5, 4/30/2009 07:19PM PST

I've been using DVDxDV for years now. It's very easy to use and creates high quality quicktime files that I've used both with iMovie and also on my iPod. All in all, still the best program I have found for converting DVD media to Quicktime. Great support - the few times that I've needed to contact customer support (problem w/ license key & getting the most recent version) they have responded promptly.

DVDxDV CommentaryDVDxDV upgrades are terrible - Version: 1.38, 1/7/2009 08:46PM PST

I purchased DVDxDV two years ago (version 1.32). I have upgraded 3 times (1.34, 1.35, 1.38). Each time I was unable to find the upgrade on the company's web site and each time I had to write to the support group to find out how to upgrade.

When upgrading to 1.34, the original license key didn't work.

Upgrading to 1.35 must have gone well because I have no record of emails after I received the download link.

Upgrading to 1.38 was a nightmare. The email I got in reply to my request for a download link was unintelligible. It appeared to direct me to sites which only had eval versions. When support clarified where to find the fully-functioning code, I was required to reenter my license key. Neither the original key or the 1.34 replacement key worked. Lucky for me I had saved the email from 1.34 which contained a .plist file and directions for where to manually save it. That worked.

I had a break today so I decided to upgrade all of my applications on my Mac. I upgrade approximately 10 apps. All of the apps either had an upgrade function in the software itself or I was clearly directed to a download site. None required reentering a license key. And none required any manual effort other than clicking some buttons in dialog screens or dragging an icon to the Applications folder.

DVDxDV fortunately does what it is designed to do. It's a pretty good product except for a terrible upgrade process and a support group which doesn't seem to like to talk to users.
