I have used DiskWarrior for years and found it to be a good product. My ‘new’ version 4.2 does not boot with OS 10.6 ! Developer was sent [upon there request]screen shots but then did not respond. Maybe because this was a “free” upgrade form 4.1 that was purchased. Anyway burned the 4.2 twice and still no luck. OH. Well another developer to stay away from. They will get there money and be another C&G -some will know that name.

My email to Alsoft Support:

Dear Support,

Can the updated Disk Warrior program 4.2 safely repair the 10.5.8
version of the Mac OS? Or do I need to use DW v4.1.1 on Leopard?

Charles

You can use DiskWarrior 4.2 with Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard).

DiskWarrior ReviewNo problems updating or repairing the drive - Version: 4.2, 9/3/2009 03:40PM PST

Creating the new DW 4.2 DVD couldn't have been easier. Tried it out immediately on my newly installed Snow Leopard laptop and it worked smooth as always (been using DW from the beginning). Kudos Alsoft.

Been using DW since version 2. I have to say 4.2 update works like a charm, as ever. As far as I'm concerned, Alsoft's example should serve as a model for other manufacturers, with affordable upgrades for loyal customers and updates released in advance of the occasional new OS - are ya listenin', Adobe?

Yes Alsoft makes it very hard to update, but that is OK. What makes things bad is this version DOES not work with OS 10.6 !!!

DiskWarrior ReviewStill can't get their _________ updater to work! - Version: 4.2, 8/31/2009 02:44AM PST

Even with all of the incredibly negative feedback regarding their updater they had the _____ to email me stating that only a few users have had trouble!!!

With their declaration therefore that of course it must be me and others with something else that is installed that must be causing the problem they explained to 'simple me' how to use their crippled updater (as most of the people that have posted here have noted). And yet again after approximately an hour trying-and-trying... it still doesn't work!

The day another app offers a similar feature I'm done with Alsoft.

Read the reviews Alsoft!

DiskWarrior Usage Tipupdating to 4.2 - Version: 4.2, 8/30/2009 11:42AM PST

I used the wor around suggested by Alsoft (see other user's comment below), which worked. However, too many people on too many websites are reporting the same problem. Thus, the problem is not our Mac configurations, but the 4.2 updater. Alsoft goofed!

DiskWarrior ReviewDefective Updater - Version: 4.2, 8/30/2009 11:00AM PST

They sent me the procedure using Disk Utility, but it is too confusing to me. So, I will be unable to update to 4.2, unless they fix this updater. I never had problems with their previous updaters, so I do not think it has anything to do with my hardware or system. Based on this problem updater and my inability to update at this time I am going to have to give a bad rating to this version. Previous versions get a top rating, but 4.2 gets a goose-egg.

If they fix the updater then I will do another review.

DiskWarrior Usage TipUpdate succeeded with Alsoft support instructions - Version: 4.2, 8/30/2009 07:28AM PST

After three attempts that ended with an error immediately after entering the personalization information, I contacted Alsoft Technical Support from their website. Below the answer by Alsoft. Worked fine for me. When the error message appeared (and before dismissing the message), I copied the disk image file from the /private/tmp/ folder and burned it with Disk Utility.

--------------------

Generally, this type of error indicates that something other process/
application is interfering with the updater (even though you have
started the computer in Safe Mode).

You can try burning the disk image manually using Disk Utility under OS
X 10.3.x or higher.

The updated DiskWarrior disk image is in the /private/tmp folder on the
hard drive.

To find the .dmg file do the following.

1. Run the updater.  Allow it to read your DiskWarrior 4.x disc and
enter the registration information when requested.

2. When it asks for a blank disc, go to the Finder (i.e. click on the
desktop).

3. In the Finder, select the "Go to Folder..." command located in the
"Go" menu.

4. The Go to Folder dialog will open and you will need to type the path
"/private/tmp" (do not type the quote marks) and then press Go.

This will open the tmp folder and you can then copy the .dmg file to the
desktop (see note below).  When dragging and dropping the disk image
file from the tmp folder to the Desktop, make sure you hold down the
"option" key so that a copy will be made instead of moving the
original.  Then burn it using Disk Utility (i.e. Use the "Burn" command
from the "Images" menu and select the .dmg file).

NOTE:
The .dmg file is deleted when the updater quits.  You need to make a
copy of this temporary file before quitting the updater so that it does
not go away.
