Product Description:

Virtual ][ is an application that emulates the Apple ][ computer. Its main purpose is to enjoy, on your Macintosh computer, the nostalgic fun of the Apple ][. The main features are:
  • Emulates the Apple ][, Apple ][+ and Apple //e;
  • Supports USB game pad or joystick
  • Save a machine and resume later on
  • Full-screen mode
  • Epson FX-80 and ImageWriter II emulation
  • Many configurable peripheral cards and devices
  • Realistic sound effects, including Mockingboard emulation
  • Convert original Apple II diskettes

What's new in this version:

  • The program now accepts "dsk" image files with 41 tracks (the maximum so far was 40).
  • A recent Snow Leopard upgrade broke the "Make Movie from Apple II Screen" feature. This has been fixed.
  • Cassette tape files now get file name extension "cass" instead of "aif". As a result, the cassette tape icon appears correctly again in Snow Leopard. Old "aif" files can still be read.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel

Virtual ][ CommentaryFloppy - Version: 6.3.6, 2/7/2010 05:30AM PST

Since I don't have a 5 1/4 inch floppy drive that I can hook up to my Mac, why would I want to use this program?

Years ago I wrote some games and educational apps for the //e that I re-wrote when we bought Mac Classic when it had a 5 MB RAM. If someone had an app to allow me to use those apps, that would be nice. They don't run on today's Mac. (They stopped working on my 1996 Mac when I upgraded the ram from 8 MB to 20 MB. I think it was because the new memory expected the apps to be 32-bit clean.) They were written in Microsoft QuickBasic which was stuck at version 1 (and may have been a beta version).

Virtual ][ Troubleshooting ReportUpdate 5.4 -> 5.5 breaks license - Version: 5.5, 10/8/2006 12:09AM PST

I can't update to 5.5 because doing so breaks my license. The new version runs in demo mode. Restoring from backup repairs the damage, if any.

The Apple ][ was recently voted the greatest PC of all time by PCWorld. I think you can say without a doubt that Virtual ][ is the greatest Apple ][ emulator of all time.

I purchased this emulator ages ago and it just keeps getting better and better.
