Product Description:

This script tries to find an album cover from allmusic.com for any selected iTunes song. Multiple selections are fine but only the first will be searched for. If no matching entries are found, the script will ask whether to close the Safari window.

Note: Due to limitations in iTunes' AppleScript support of the browser, at least one song must be selected. Suggested procedure:
  1. place GetArtwork into "~/Library/iTunes/Scripts" - create the Scripts folder if necessary.
  2. select all songs from a given album in iTunes
  3. make sure, that artwork is displayed in iTunes
  4. select "Get Artwork" from iTunes' Script menu.
  5. see what happens
  6. if all goes well and the cover displayed in the Safari window is the one you wanted, click 'Accept' and wait a few moments.

What's new in this version:

  1. No longer closes the Safari window containing the artwork
  2. Makes iTunes the active application after finishing
Safari 1.2 contains the rather useful option to open links from other programs as new tabs instead of new windows. Since there is no way of closing tabs from AppleScript, I decided to make the modified version from DodgeNeonRT the main version and provide the old 1.4.1 as alternate download for those, who prefer to not use this new option and like their browser windows to be closed after finishing. However, I think 1.4.1-br reflects the preference of most users. Thanks to DodgeNeonRT for this contribution.

GetArtwork ReviewCompletely Broken - Version: 1.4.1, 1/27/2007 03:14PM PST

If this ever worked, it certainly doesn't now. This is on a G4 iBook with a fully up-to-date 10.3.9 OS. Should be removed from Version Tracker as it's a complete waste of time. How it ever got 4 stars I'll never know.

GetArtwork CommentaryUseless - Version: 1.4.1, 9/6/2006 05:40PM PST

Found one of the 6 or 7 album covers I tried it on and that was the wrong one. For me this seems absolutely useless.

GetArtwork Commentarydoesn't work - Version: 1.4.1, 6/8/2005 02:55AM PST

ok I'm running on G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.1 and it never seems to work. It either says that it couldn't find number one in this album or the google site opens (i replaced that part of the script like it was said) but it never finds anything, not even for extremely famous albums like The Massacre or soundtracks... So it doesn't work, at least not for me.
