Product Description:

Terrabrowser is an internet browser for satellite photos and topographical maps with built in support for Garmin GPS receivers. Download waypoints from your GPS to display on the maps, edit them, upload new waypoints to your receiver. Maps are obtained from the Microsoft Terra Server which serves data provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Includes extensive bookmarking support, image cache, and many other features!

Terrabrowser aims to be compatible with the rest of the GPS world, so it uses the XML based GPX file standard which allows easy exchange (file, copy/paste, drag & drop) with other GPS programs for Macintosh, Linux, Windows, etc. which support this format. The NMEA standard protocol is also supported which allows for a "live tracking" mode to display the user's realtime position on a satellite map (cached or not).

Terrabrowser CommentaryDangerous Characters - Version: 1.5b3, 4/15/2006 09:49PM PST

I've only used terrabrowser without connecting a GPS unit (but have found out how to make my Magellan Explorist 300 connectable elsewhere) and have been satisfied with the performance of this utilitarian application.

I have one caution for those out there naming their waypoints (and who doesn't?)

Do not use the ampersand (&) symbol, for some reason it renders your bookmarks unreadable and it'll appear as if you've lost them all on your next launch.

Furthermore it renders Terrabrowser unable to add further bookmarks to the file.

Terrabrowser ReviewGreat Program - Version: 1.5b3, 11/9/2005 03:04PM PST

I think duckhue is missing the point of this program!

I have been using it for years and not only does it work well. The developer is once of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of writing to for tech support.

I just got a GPS unit and I love the GPS integration that this program offers. In fact I do most of my route planning with this program. True I really don't need a GPS to places I have been hundreds of times but it makes a boring drive more interesting having the GPS along. The program is also good for scoping out an area before going there for a Geocache hunting trip.

A great program and a great developer gives this top marks in my book!

TerraBrowser is a very nice little program. I have been using it for some time and it has assisted me in tracking my hikes and bicycle rides on a satellite map.

I am very pleased with the program, and the author is responsive and helpful.
