Product Description:

Introducing Nisus Writer Express: The all new writing and editing tool that is engineered lean, focused and fast at a price even a student can afford.

Completely rewritten in Cocoa so it blends seamlessly with the OS X environment, Nisus Writer Express exploits OS X to the full, and it will continue to grow with the power of Mac OS X.

Features such as Microsoft Word? read/write support, unicode, RTF and plain text format support, a customizable interface, Perl macros, non-contiguous selection, an exclusive Autosave Library and powerful GREP find and replace makes Nisus Writer Express a compelling choice for your word processing needs.

What's new in this version:

  • Added steppers to Character and Paragraph Palette.
  • Can change language and text color of noncontiguous selections.
  • Learn/forget properly marks or unmarks all cases of the word, not just the selected one.
  • Image drawing is no longer blurred.
  • Zooming the page now shows images in all their possible detail.
  • The "Reading RTF" progress panel cancel button now immediately ends any open operations and closes the panel.
  • Japanese text will no longer "disappear" when it is incorrectly marked in the English language and font synchronization is turned on.
  • Typing is no longer slow in large plain text documents, or when Japanese keyboard synchronization is turned on.
  • Keyboard layout synchronized only when user actively moves the selection around the document, not on every keystroke.
  • If a spelling dictionary is not available, the user isn't continually prompted with an error.
  • Saving as RTFD preserves image file names.
  • Triple-click (paragraph selection) selects the following newline character.
  • Fixed the RTF reading of high-ascii accented characters.
  • RTF files preserves PICT images, instead of re-encoding as PNG. Also preserves math baseline.
  • Fixed empty HFS file type codes in saved documents.
  • Spell checking starts from selection now, rather than at the document start.
  • Large documents don't continually scroll to the top while they are being read.
  • Fixed the RTF reading of 'fields' (urls in pasted html text).

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3

Nisus Writer Express ReviewNWE - it's fun to write - Version: 3.3.1, 11/14/2009 03:32PM PST

Nisus Writer Express 3.3.1 continues the line of sensation composition software.
Using it on a new MBP 15 2.66 with Snow 10.6.2 & NWE lets you write.
You can customize as much as you need.
NWE gives you lots of features to turn out many types of documents.
However, the main theme remains - it is a joy to write with Nisus Writer.

Nisus Writer Express ReviewI try to like it but… - Version: 3.1, 9/1/2008 05:21PM PST

…it has always been that bit odd and hard to use. The few outstanding features it had like non-contiguous text selection are available in virtually every Cocoa app now.

I have gone for clean, mean and fast simplicity in iText Express which is free, or the big brother upgrade iText Pro '08 [US$15]. Both are absolutely brilliant fast and easy to use, the way mac programs used to be. No wonder you'll find the users who have discovered them raving about them.

I use them to store all sorts of media, hold website clippings, do DTP to pdf, manage my links and DLs etc and am still finding new uses for them.

That is all cream on top of the best word processors money can buy (in the case of iText Express, none necessary).

Do yourself a favor, shake off the old clutter and get true Mac word processing back on your desktop.

Nisus Writer Express CommentaryIs there really a need for this? - Version: 3.0.2, 5/6/2008 05:05PM PST

After I discovered OpenOffice and Neooffice I started using Nisus Writer Express less and less to the point I forgot I even had it. At least until I upgraded to an iMac and version tracker showed me every piece of software I still had (unused or not) in need of an update.

Coming back I have to ask does this program even have a purpose anymore? OpenOffice and Neooffice offer so much more for far less of a price. IMHO time has passed this program by.
