Product Description:

Ready for a new version of backgammon, made especially for OS X! Try this attractive and easy to use version of the game.

Has many features including 5 different methods to move the pieces including your voice, 5 skill levels and along with the default board, you can use use other attractive boards.

It is in English, French and Italian. German is almost finished.

Uses speech and also works with OS 8 and 9 (requires CarbonLib)

For those concerned that the dice rolls might not be random, the game has an option to save the dice rolls, to be used in the game, to a file in the game folder before the game starts. There is also and option to ask if you want to use your dice rolls or the computer's dice rolls. With these 2 options selected, even the most skeptical can be assured that the game is not cheating. Also, you can check the stats that the game keeps to assure you that the dice rolls are random and not favoring either player.

What's new in this version:

  • added the ability to play against another person on the same computer. It can be selected in the Game menu. Please read the document "Playing Against Another Person" in the game folder (English Information) for information.
  • added a new feature called "Smart Placement". It is selected by default. It makes it easier to put down a piece by increasing the area for putting down a piece. It can be selected in Preferences.../Move tab
  • added some additional messages for incorrect piece placement
  • added an option to turn off the speaking of piece placement errors. Select it in Preferences.../Sound tab.
  • added Games Conceded and Cubes Declined to session and running stats.
  • added session scores to the Info drawer
  • changed the dice area
  • is just a little larger than the area that the 4 dice use.
  • if doubles were rolled, illegal moves could be made when bearing off pieces. Not now.
  • Speech Recognition
  • took out the beep when a word is recognized. If speech was used and sound turned up enough, it was causing "two" to be heard, then it would beep again, hearing another 2.
  • Foreign language changes for the above have not been made yet. They show in English until the translations are added. Hopefully in the next month.
  • Check out the new and very interestiong board styles/skins created by Joeri van der Mije. http://bestbackgammon.com/absolute/html/otherboards.htm or select it in the Help menu in the game.
  • made several other minor enhancements and fixed any known bugs.

Great application, can't live without it.

I'd wish my computer will recognize hand movements and allow me to pass the dice the natural way, like Wii.
I'd wish that I can hear virtual voices commenting my game in real time.

Meanwhile, it's absolutely fun. It's worth every cent.

Absolute Backgammon ReviewSomewhat of a 'Newbie' - Version: 6.5, 8/3/2009 01:00PM PST

Appreciate the 'Suggested Moves' -- as it speeds up the learning curve of someone who hasn't played too much -- yet !!!!

This application seems more user friendly than the more highly recommended BGBlitz to me !!

Absolute Backgammon ReviewA delight to play and a challenge to boot - Version: 6.1.6, 7/5/2009 06:10PM PST

Even though I have just found this version, I started playing David's backgammon back when that was actually what it was called. That was ages ago and this new version is far superior. It is easy to work with and you can actually be challenged in the game. It is fun to play and with the different board setups you can vary your viewing pleasure.

I am very pleased to have this on my computer once again.
