Why not just use the free plug-in "DownloadHelper" for Firefox, one click and the movie is on your desktop in flv, just open it in Quicktime and save as. "Get Tube" is cool to for Safari and Firefox. Just go to it's prefs and set the save path, and the conversion, it's super easy and auto converts.

Open the page to the YouTube vid you want. Open the Activities window (command-shift-A). Find the largest file (or, if you have a slower connection, the file still downloading), and press command-C. Open the Downloads window (command-shift-L). Press command-V.
Your video will now download. Use your favorite .flv to .mp4/.wmv converter to convert (I use VisualHub, which sadly has been discontinued).
Enjoy.

Once "YouTube Video Grabber" stopped working (though I still use it for converting the FLV files to MOV), I began using this Free YouTube Downloader. It works great, although it is a rough Java build. Still, I don't complain about free software...especially when it does what it says.

I've been downloading videos from YouTube for a couple of years using a link in my menu bar that I got from KeepVid.com. Whenever I see a video on YouTube that I want to save, I click the "Keep It!" link in my menu bar and voila! Videos can even be downloaded now in hi-res MP4 format. And several can be downloaded simultaneously. Don't need anything else.

This has got to be dodgy. System requirements include Classic, 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2? Website is best-programs.net? Not to mention the articles on the site are badly formed and worded. Mmyeah, I don't think so.

Very simple but nicely done. Yes, you could add downloadhelper it's a fine tool, but this downloader allows you to set up a list of downloads and brings them down efficiently.
Works flawlessly on snowlep mini.
