Product Description:

Don's Calorie Tracker allows you to easily record your daily intake of calories AND also easily record your daily exercise. Thus you can track the two main factors in weight maintenance. In general, in order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you ingest. You can either reduce your calorie intake, or increase your exercise level, or both. Don's Calorie Tracker keeps a daily running total. You can easily see how you are doing and you'll know when you must stop eating for a particular day. Or, if you go over your calorie target, you can see how performing a particular exercise will impact the calorie total. If eating that slice of chocolate cake puts you 100 calories over your target amount, then you'll see that a 20 minute walk will bring the total back down to the target amount.

Knowledge is power. Don's Calorie Tracker gives you all the information you need to control your weight. The simple act of knowing how many calories you eat, and how many you burn off with exercise is empowering! Don's Calorie Tracker has a few more tricks up its sleeve. It doesn't simply give you a calorie total and leave it at that. What Don's Calorie Tracker does is create a personalized estimated "base calorie burn" level. This allows the program to more accurately predict the calorie level where you will lose weight. This base burn level is adjusted as you use the program so it becomes more accurate the longer you use the program. Don's Calorie Tracker gives you a plus or minus total which simply tells you how you are doing each day. If the total is bigger than zero, you've eaten more than you are allowed and must do more exercise. If the number is zero or minus, you are on track to achieving your target weight.

What's new in this version:

Improved initial base burn rate calculation

Don's Calorie Tracker CommentaryNo internationalization... - Version: 1.0.2, 9/6/2003 10:53AM PST

This program looks great, but it doesn't seem to obey the international settings. The date is resolutely in US format, and it only seems to accept weights in pounds, not kg. If it was made ready for the rest of the world outside the US I would probably register, but at the moment it's only of interest for US residents and those that follow the US' old fashioned system of measurement. One positive thing to say is that the trial period, at least with this version, is 15 days (with 7 days of data saved), not 3 days as people below have complained about. One frustrating thing is that it is not possible to set the software to automatically open a data file on launch - but then I suppose one can always double-click on the data file to launch the program!

Don's Calorie Tracker CommentaryDemo mode - Version: 1.0.2, 9/6/2003 09:17AM PST

I would agree with you. I haven't even downloaded the demo yet, and I might not, now.

I buy a lot of software, but only after I have tried the programs out thoroughly. To keep myself organized, I keep a desktop folder of programs I want to try out, and I try out a lot of programs. I give each one a good workout in the order that I downloaded them.

I don't feel that I can download this one, because it would go to the bottom of my list and would most likely time out before I even try it out, because there are about eight programs ahead of it.

Since I don't feel I can download it right now, I will probably not remember to download it later, and by then, other programs will have "gotten in line" anyway.

Three days is way, way too short a time even if I started today. I would have to use this program for a couple of weeks to see if I want to continue using it. Anything shorter would not give me a good enough "feeling" for the program.

Don's Calorie Tracker ReviewProgram works for… - Version: 1.0.1, 4/24/2003 07:18PM PST

me. One of the few things is the brevity of the food database, which is nice so that I can add my own food items, however, a link to a good calorie estimator for foods and exercise somewhere on the web would help. to me 3 days is a short period to try a program. Maybe a week or 2 since the goal is to lose weight. In using a program 3 days most likely you aren't going to lose weight. Success with the program would make you more likely to buy it.
