A lot of nice new features and fixes. The best support I have ever experienced! Keep up the good work and do something about the memory consumption.

sandro3Three things prevent it from being excellent and getting 5 Stars:
1. The most important: still unstable. Getting better with each version, but still occasional crashes, which can be very frustrating during a party
2. Performance is not good. Using a very big library the programms lags when switching between playlists. In addition Disco DJ is using constantly 20-60% of the processor and tops out at 100% when mixing and blending two songs. This is on a Mac Book Pro.
3. Huge Memory consumption. Starting with 200-300 mb and quickly rising with every song you play. I got it to 1.2 GB of physical ram consumption after a 4 hour use which ended in a crash.
Still don't get me wrong, the best DJ software for my needs. And I tried all available on a mac...
Love It

TheAppleGeekI really think Disco is the thing to use, but I'm waiting for the author to set up a PayPal or eSellerate shop, so I can buy it =)

Disco and DJ-1800 has performance problems, use Traktor beatport!

Mikis--2008DJ-1800 is a nice application, but have perfomance problems as do Disco. Both DJ-1800 2 and Disco 2.8.9 gave Audio dropouts both when I loaded the second track to play and in Disco also when I momentarily switched applications. How's that for a nice first encounter? This was on a 400Mhz Powerbook G4 that otherwise run Traktor DJ Studio 2.6.2 as well as Traktor Beatport 1.0 very well. In addition Traktor *sounds better*. It has its own audio engine which helps. AFAIK both Disco and DJ-1800 rely on Quicktime.
Both Disco and DJ-1800 should compare themselves to the free Traktor Beatport application (you'll need to register, which is free) as well as the professional Traktor Dj Studio suite. Both Traktor DJ Studio 2.6.2 and Traktor Beatport 1.0 outperforms both Disco and DJ-1800 (but may need a g4). I haven't tried Traktor Beatport on G3 hardware though, nor have I tried Traktor DJ Studio 3.
Even the free Traktor Beatport have keyboard shortcuts. Where are these in Disco and DJ-1800?
DJ-1800 has few pluses over Disco as you can precue in many decks and better performance IMHO even on older G3 hardware. But in an audio application, audio dropouts are unforgiveable. Traktor DJ Studio also had perfomance problems before version 2.6 and I told them the same thing back then. Native Instruments listened. Traktor rules!
If you can't afford the real Traktor, even second hand, do yourself a favour and check out Traktor Beatport as well as the alternatives. Use what works for you! For G3 hardware DJ-1800 may work best, but on a G4 Traktor Beatport should convince.
Real-time apps are hard work, but if you can't outcreate a free application you might as well develop something else. I suggest both developers try and improve their apps beyond Traktor Beatport. It sets a standard any DJ app should meet or exceed.

SleixFirst of all, the simplicity of DJ-1800 is there, in my opinion. It may look complicated at first to an untrained eye, but I found that the layout of Disco to be a bit more complex and jarring, lacking professionalism. While mousing over things, Disco has a tendency to make me have to drag it all the way across the screen to use the simplest items on the 2nd mixer. I only have to mouse a short distance to another player, mixer, or even better, use a shortcut key and be done with it without getting a good case of carpal tunnel syndrome. I don't necessarily need the mixer at the centerpiece of my radio station, as it is in Disco. I need it to be in reach, however.
Now, onto the subject of documentation. With DJ-1800, I have found that the documentation is sufficient, explaining to me each and every function, down to simple quick-key commands. This made my experience with DJ-1800 very simple. Disco, on the other hand...uh, where are the documents? Two 'tutorials?' that deal with the basics, and an annoying popup help window that I usually want to turn off at first sight. What I'd like are simple, easy to understand documents on the whats, hows, wheres, whys and whens of a program. A basic explanation of each function with associated key shortcuts, etc. These two tutorials, and the annoying little help window, while trying to be good, only just add fluff and distraction to the main program. Disco needs better help and documentation.
Bugs? I've got to ask about your unsubstantiated claim of bugs in DJ-1800? In the time I've been demoing it, it was doing what exactly what I wanted it to do, without any hiccups or flaws. Please, sir, before you go as far as to accusing somebody of having a buggy program...have you considered the thought of backing up your claims with *REAL* proof? The examples you gave were vague and poorly thought up, as if you're desperate to get somebody to buy your program.
With all these in mind, as well as the lucid attempt to dissuade the public through slandering your competition (that is SO Microsoft,) I am going to rate you poorly, sir. My $40 will most likely be spent on his program, not yours.
Good day, sir.

dj-1800Well, I actually think Disco is a pretty cool piece of software too. I'd certainly suggest that users download and try it.
In fact, I don't take issue with Disco - just the fact that it continues to offer a skin copied directly from my own program, DJ-1800. Create your own designs, guys.
