Function Keys Mapper CommentaryBeware of 4.0 - Version: 3.6, 5/30/2008 10:21AM PST

griff--2008
I just made a bad mistake. FKM just notified me that a newer version is available at:

http://alphaomega.software.free.fr/functionkeysmapper/Function%20Keys%20Mapper.dmg

I downloaded it and discovered much to my chagrin that this is a paid upgrade. Nothing in the accompanying docs informs you of this fact. The first time I discovered this was when it launched and told me that my serial number is invalid. "Nuts!" I grumbled and tried to revert to 3.6. Sorry, no go! The old serial number no longer works period! It won't work in 4.0 or 3.6.

To call this highway robbery would be to putting it mildly!

These unscrupulous guys have got a huge inventory of overpriced apps that duplicate functionality that is either included in OS X or available as free/donationware.

Butler (donationware) <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20035> enables you to do the same thing as does Function Keys Mapper - Mac OS X.

Almost $20 bucks for a program like this seems high to me...OneKey does what this does with better integration (pref pane) and the price is $5.00.
