I have tried a number of different programs to assist with the transfer of large files over the internet and most will do the job. However, this program beats them all for its ease of use and speed. I highly recommend this product. It is definitely the file compression / file transfer program for people without much technical ability.
It gets the job done without having the user to read pages of instructions on its operation.

I've owned FileChute for years, I use it when I need it and it never lets me down. Great concept for the Mac.
Excellent!

For quite some time, I have been uploading several files at once to my FTP site, and the manual process of getting the URL's has been a real pain, especially ensuring that they are clickable in an email (for some reason I sometimes had problems with that).
FileChute has made this operation SO much easier! Do the simple setup, upload the files, then select the files in FileChute and it automatically shows you the URL of the file in a window on top of the app's screen. Drag them en masse to the email program. Done.
For the person who was trying to upload to yousendit, note that YellowMug makes no claims of being able to do this. Websites like yousendit are web-based file transfer sites. YellowMug's website reads: "FileChute works best with a MobileMe account, configuration is super easy. But since not everyone has a MobileMe account, FileChute also works great with other FTP or WebDAV-accessible web server."

This is not working at all for me. Sure I can get it to upload a 10MB max file to my earthlink server, so does any ftp app.
I tried getting it to work with yousendit.com, but to hard to figure out.
So I just signed up for the free 100MB yousendit.com and downloaded the small free app to do it right from your desktop, for 10.00 a month I can get like 40GB
So I don't know where you guys are uploading your files to. I guess you have a .Mac account or sometime. I always read that they have problems, so I never went for that.
The short of it is that this app is either too hard to set up or you need a shell out money somewhere besides paying for this app, paying for an app, Whaaaaaa hahahaha.
I keep returning to this app to try and make it work, but after spending late hours once a month for a couple years, I think I'm done with it.

This program is just excellent. It's super easy to use, and easy for recipients to retrieve the files you are sharing. I love it.

Since VersionTracker didn't annotate the v4.1 changes:
Version 4.1 (December 13, 2008)
- For users with multiple accounts set up, you can now rearrange their order
simply by dragging the account name in the preferences window.
- Removed the backup short URL service because it hasn't been working reliably.

Not just for email...

Sure, FileChute does an excellent job of making it ridiculously simple and quick to get large files to people by emailing them links to download the files. When I found a quarter gig file on our mailserver that a client was trying to email somewhere, FileChute came to the rescue in such a convincingly effective way that it may have sold a Mac.
But I was reminded of another use that I will use far more often. Let's say you are writing a post to a blog or a forum, or editing a web page, and you want to include an image. Just drag the image to FileChute, and it gives you the URL. Paste the URL into your post or webpage. It literally takes seconds to do.
For years, I've had to use an ftp client to transfer the file, then type in the URL by hand, an error-prone process. No more! Drag, copy, paste. I'm telling all my Mac-using friends.
It may not be obvious, but you can quickly swap from one account to another using a drop-down menu near the bottom of the FileChute window. So, I can use Mobile Me, or a general-purpose ftp account, or a special account I have for images, all easy to get to.
There needs to be a star rating beyond "Excellent". How about "Mind-boggling"?

I have not had to contact the developer so I cannot speak of the support, but FileChute has been a saviour, of sorts. Twice, I tried to send e-mails that would appear to be small enough to get under the radar. Not so! Without any hassle at all, I brought up FileChute and it entered MobileMe information iteself. I didn't have to do a thing! Then, all I had to do was drag the files I wanted to send on top of the FileChute icon. It did the rest. It even asked if I wanted those files wrapped in an archive! When it finished its encoding, all I had to do was drag the link it made to the e-mail window. It seems nothing in life is this easy any more! I have had not one problem from this great lttle app and since Apple's last upgrades, everything has had a quirk or two! That is saying a lot for this little piece of programming. I sprung for it so I don't have to worry in the future. I just hope the developer stays around!
