Abee ReviewNew breath to Address Book - Version: 2.0.6, 4/29/2008 06:47AM PST

I bought this marvellous application almost instantly. Now that more and more applications use Address Book as their primary database it's quite indispensible to import all your other files into it. Address Book Importer does this job flawlessly and without causing you a headache. The price is right and I even dare to say that for what it does it's even cheap! At long last I can use Address Book at its most thanks to Address Book Importer. Very well done - thanks! Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

Abee ReviewNice Little App - Version: 2.0.4, 2/8/2006 10:41PM PST

Used this little app to finally wean myself away from years of increasingly unhappy Now Contact use. A database of nearly 1000 contacts is now in Address Book.

Pluses: a very simple and intuitive interface and the ability to map Notes in NC to Notes in AB, though in somewhat garbled form.
Minuses: could do with better instructions on dealing with custom field mapping.

Worth the $10 bucks.

It worked! exported from Filmaker Pro 7 to tab-delimited format then used Address Book Importer 1.2.3 to import to my MAC OS X 10.3 address book via LDIF format. Address Book Importer 1.2.3 properly mapped my data and perfectly added it to my address book. This allows me to use my Samsung i500 Palm Pilot Phone that isync keeps syncronized. By the way Sprint/Samsung has no provision for MAC OS platform on the box for their phone but it works perfectly via USB and I sync. You just need to remove all conduitsd from the library/palm/conduits folder EXCEPT the isync conduit and the PDA works great.
Thank you for making Address Book Importer 1.2.3!

Abee ReviewStraightforward helper: - Version: 1.2.3, 12/12/2004 05:02PM PST

Flexible and easy to use. At first I was frustrated, because I assumed that AB would recognize the import as "Last Import" and would allow me to assign a group from there (AB does not recognize the new imports as the last import). But in fact one assigns the group for the import from the field-assignment dialogue. In general, this is about as good as I've seen in an import helper, and for free!

Abee ReviewIf it goes wrong , then how do you fix it? - Version: 1.2.3, 9/29/2004 07:54AM PST

I formatted about 250 exported records in xls.
Then saved it as tab delimited text and now I have 21672 records in my addressbook.

Removing them just by deleting seems impossible.
Addressbook is already trying for a couple of hours.

Some way to stop the import when it is going wrong might be nice.

Saved me no end of grief migrating a tab-delimited Excel contact list with hundreds of entries into Address Book. Allows you to contain newly imported contacts within a group of their own. Many thanks to the author!

Abee ReviewExactly what I needed - Version: 1.2.3, 9/16/2004 11:13AM PST

This program did exactly what I needed - imports a text file full of email addresses. Now when someone sends an email with tons of addresses in it, I can import them all into a group in Address Book without any fuss.

This feature *should* have been built in to Address Book itself, but it wasn't. This program fills the gap nicely.

Abee ReviewFabulous Product! - Version: 1.2.3, 9/12/2004 12:06AM PST

Ever since PowerTalk debuted in System 7.1 Pro, I've been wanting to use a system-wide database for contacts. Now that I've gotten a PowerMac G4 capable of running Mac OS X, I'm excited to use Address Book—OS X's re-incarnation of PowerTalk. I've found a glaring hole in the capabilities of Address Book, however: it seems that it cannot import tab-delimited (text) files. Instead, I'm limited to LDIF or vCard files.

Obviously this is a problem. To the best of my knowledge, only fairly recent contact managers will export in these two formats, and I've been content for a number of years to use Now Contact, which doesn't support either. Add to that my home-grown database for my business which only exports to text (and I update the export monthly) and you can see that I have a problem getting my contacts into Address Book.

It took me a while searching on Google (a seventh page link to a PDF pointed me to another location), but I found this simple utitlity that easily read my tab-delimited file; allowed me to map the import fields; and imported the contacts into the group of my choice. (Dummy me, I didn't think to look on Version Tracker first.)

It's not perfect, since it doesn't yet support all of the new fields in 10.3's Address Book, but that shortcoming is due to be fixed and a number of enhancements are planned. I'm pleased as punch to find Address Book Importer and I'm sure you will be, too.
