Product Description:

iAssist is the Internet server management system for Mac OS X. Think of iAssist as an ever expanding knowledgebase of information about managing a Mac-based Internet server. In fact, at first glance, iAssist looks a lot like a hierarchically organized reference or help system. But unlike a help system, iAssist doesn't just tell you how to perform a task... It does it for you. Rather than building a piece of software and slapping a help system on as an afterthought, iAssist has been designed to explain to you the task at hand first. The result is a simple interface that is remarkably quick to use and feels immediately comfortable.

What's new in this version:

  • Improved reliability and efficiency of file transfers between the iAssist client and server.
  • Error handling and detection has been improved for several server functions.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1
  • Mac OS X 10.0

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X

This looks wonderful, but I didn't really contemplate continuing to use it because it's $250. While that price is reasonable for the administrator of an office site or a small business site, it is outside the range of private use. I'll wait for something cheaper (just as I use CrushFTP even though Rumpus is the best FTP server going, but carries Maxum's usual high price). At some point, we need a version for the "rest of us".

Quick to set up - about ten minutes after the modules had downloaded. Nice interface, live module updates and avoid obscure low-level proxy configurations. Impressive proxy performance - much faster than previous OS9 proxy. Strong content filtering.

iAssist ReviewI don't use… - Version: Release 1-006, 4/17/2003 02:28AM PST

the web proxy feature of iAssist yet but I really like the convenient way of configuring ssh options and also editing config files remotely without having to resort to vi or pico. With the config files option, I load the files, edit them in BBEdit and save the changes back to the server. The "run shell" command allows me to execute commands on the server without having to log in. I'm looking forward to more features that allow me to manage our servers -- Apple's Mac OS X Server tools don't allow me to configure many of the low-level parts of the system but with iAssist, I have a graphical interface for those options.
