Product Description:

When you need a clear understanding of how tasks, activities, and processes are carried out, OmniGraffle can help you produce amazing-looking diagrams that communicate information far better than words - and if you're just looking to make a poster for your Sunday garage sale, it's perfect for that too. Diagrams are basic to the way people think, and we create them all the time without even realizing it. Whatever your profession or interests, chances are you've occasionally sketched out some ideas on a piece of graph paper or the back of a napkin. OmniGraffle is the tool to help you organize your thoughts visually, document them beautifully, and communicate them to the world. More than just a silly name, OmniGraffle is a powerful, yet easy to use diagramming and drawing tool. OmniGraffle can help you make amazing graphic documents quickly by keeping lines connected to shapes even when they're moved, providing stencils full of common symbols for you to drag and drop, and magically organizing diagrams with just one click. Create flow charts, org charts, network diagrams, family trees, project processes, office layouts - or anything else that can be represented by symbols and lines.

What's new in this version:

OmniGraffle 5 has increased layout speed and new automatic layout options with the addition of the Graphviz layout engine. Many of the standard OmniGraffle tools are more powerful, including the line tools which can now create Bézier curves, making drawing and connecting objects more flexible. Additionally, the toolbar has been updated for easy access to common text and object formatting options. OmniGraffle has a large community of users that develop and share free stencils and it's now easier to search, organize and download these stencils using the new local and online search capability in the stencil window.

One of the most significant additions for those working in a mixed Mac OS X and Windows environment is OmniGraffle Professional 5's updated Visio compatibility. OmniGraffle Professional 5 can now import Microsoft Visio VSD files directly with continued support for import and export of Visio XML files as well as import of Visio stencils and templates.

Users who have not upgraded can download the latest update to the version 4 line below.

OmniGraffle Pro ReviewStill good value IMHO - Version: 5.0, 5/10/2008 01:07AM PST

tersonodesign
It's sad that so many people consider Omnigraffle Pro expensive - personally I still consider it excellent value (take a look at Visio's pricing for comparison) - and there's always the standard version of the product, which is significantly cheaper. Certainly when I originally upgraded to the 'Pro' version when it first appeared, my immediate feeling was that it was ridiculously cheap by comparison with Visio, SmartDraw and similar applications.

Personally, upgrading to v5 was a no-brainer, as Omnigraffle Pro is one of my most used apps, and has been for years (I've been using it pretty much since the beginning).

I use it almost daily for a massive range of work projects: network diagrams, flow charts, organisational charts, planning of web sites, signs for our noticeboard (it's quick than using InDesign for small internal projects), I even used it to produce a very complex map recently.

It's one of those software tools that I really don't know how anyone can manage without - and is, for me, one of the real Mac 'Killer applications'

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Omnigraffle gets my vote for being the best-designed application on the platform.

OmniGraffle Pro CommentaryStill using version 4 - Version: 5.0.1 beta 1, 5/9/2008 03:39PM PST

Somebody
Hopefully one of these beta versions will fix the price bug.

I find it hard to believe that OMNI charged so much not only for this upgrade, but also for programs such as Omni Plan and Omni Focus. I own both of these as well, and prefer Merlin 2 and Thinking Rock 2. I bought these Omni programs in part to show my support for the company, and this was prior to the Omni Graffle pricing fiasco. To me these Omni programs are not a good value given their prices and features, and competing products have been a better choice for me.

I seldom use OmniWeb, which I think was the first Omni product I purchased many years ago, and use FireFox or Safari these days. But at one point OmniWeb was my favorite browser. And I didn't mind paying for it. It was worth it.

I used to love Omni as a company, and the support ninjas are amazing 99.9% of the time. But I'll keep on using OmniGraffle 4 until it no longer works for my needs and/or I find a replacement.

I'm certainly not upgrading my Omni software if things continue this way.
Just my feedback.

OmniGraffle Pro CommentaryUnbelievable ripoff - Version: 5.0, 4/22/2008 09:53AM PST

This is an unbelievable ripoff from a greedy company. Not only will I not purchase this, I am replacing my other Omni applications.

Very short sighted pricing from a company with, apparently, short term goals.
