Product Description:

FrameThief is the premier solution for Stop Motion animators on the Macintosh platform. FrameThief features a rich tool set for the creation of high quality animation with ease, versatility, and speed. The basic functionality of FrameThief is that of a video frame grabber, but the program builds upon this functionality to provide tools specific to animation.

What's new in this version:

  • Tool Window's navigation look can now be altered. A combinations of Label/No Label with No/Small/Large icons can be setup in Tool Window Preference Panel.
  • Modified the way feed updates are handled for better performance.
  • Fixed the 'sticky' interface problem where a control or menu would not act when clicked on without moving the mouse or pressing a key.
  • The interface is now much more responsive.
  • Fixed bug where the Zoom Selection button in the Animation Window would not de-activate when Zoom Selection was turned off in the Replay menu.
  • Sheet backgrounds are now drawn correctly.
  • Fixed the aliasing flicker in navigation bars.
  • Modified tool panels in the Tools Window to use the screen real estate more efficiently.
  • Fixed the Disk Space status to display the correct available disk space on systems with large drives.
  • Fixes problems with QuickTime Video's Feed Transformations.
  • Fixed problem with Feed and Capture plugins not being correctly initialized when capture sources are fixed without restarting FrameThief.
  • Many other minor fixes.

FrameThief ReviewNo Updates, No Support, No Response - Version: 2.1.9, 7/13/2006 08:23PM PST

This is a great, feature-filled little application for producing stop-frame animation.

However, it wasn't until after I paid for this that I found out that the publishers haven't updated this software since April 15, 2003. I should have looked closer.

The publisher also has not made an update or added a comment to their web site's support board since sometime in 2004.

This is a carbon-ized version of the original OS 9 application. The publisher has not announced whether this will run on the new Intel boxes, and has not responded to those who ask whether it will on their own support board. (Most likely it will run under Roseta.)

My own requests for support have gone unanswered for several weeks, at this writing.

So what's going on? Is Framethief dead, or alive?
