Ah, a server… - Version: 1.1, 4/9/2003 01:17AM PST

system. I've always wanted one of those. (What the devil is it?) I know what a server is and I know what server sys-admin tools are. I know what shell scripts and run-time compilers are. I know what PHP, Perl, Ruby, Apache, and Java are. I know what text editors, IDE's, and relational database managers are. But what on earth is a "server system"? And what KIND of server are we talking about here? Is this about a web server (as I suspect it is), or e-mail server, or file server--or what? All of the above? Yes, I can go to the developer web site for more details, but I think a better product description on VT would be well advised--something more specific than "developer tools" and "server components." Even just a raw LIST of the major components would be helpful and -- if this is a collection of open-source freeware (much of which is already included in an OS X install) -- a word about the value added and what sets this package apart (and makes it worth $60) would be helpful too. I don't expect VT to substitute for a ReadMe file or release notes, but even allowing for that, the description above is unduly sparse and vague.
